The Colts are trading a late-round draft pick to the Raiders for linebacker Sio Moore, both teams announced Friday night.

Moore, a third-round pick in 2013, started 22 games in two seasons with the Raiders and should get an immediate chance to contribute with the Colts, who need help at linebacker and on defense in general.

Moore has never played in a 3-4 defense but he had 3 sacks last season and 4.5 as a rookie. It’s unclear which position he’ll play with the Colts or where he’ll fit in a linebacker corps that’s probably not settled.

The Colts added veteran Trent Cole in the offseason and hope to have Robert Mathis back soon but might not have seen enough from backup outside linebackers Bjoern Werner and Jonathan Newsome in the preseason. Werner, a first-round pick in 2013, had 4 sacks last year; Newsome had a strong rookie year getting after the quarterback and had 6.5 sacks.

Moore, who’s recovering from hip surgery, had fallen out of the rotation this summer with the Raiders.

Raiders sign Aldon Smith, who’s eligible to play Sunday

The Raiders signed talented but troubled linebacker Aldon Smith to a one-year deal Friday, giving Smith a possible chance to rejuvenate his career.

Smith served a nine-game NFL suspension last year and is subject to eventual league discipline — as well as possible jail time — for his August arrest on DUI and hit-and-run charges, so it’s no guarantee he’ll play at all in 2015.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Smith is eligible to play Sunday, and his availability will depend on his conditioning.

The 49ers released Smith the day after the arrest, his third DUI-related arrest since 2012.

“This organization has tried very hard to help Aldon fight his issues,” a 49ers statement about Smith’s release said. “Although he is no longer a member of this team, our support and concern for him will continue.”

Interestingly, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Smith had other at least three other teams interested in signing him. The one-year deal means Smith could be an unrestricted free agent next spring.

JDR probably is showing them film this week of puppies being eaten by alligators or kittens being swallowed by snakes. that was the sort of weird sheet he brought to the Broncos as a pre-game ritual... he's a fracking mental case if you ask me.

Aldon Smith charged with three misdemeanors

Linebacker Aldon Smith signed with the Raiders on Friday and he’s currently eligible to play for the team immediately, but that may not remain the case for too long.

Smith was released by the 49ers after an August arrest in Santa Clara and he was charged with three misdemeanors associated with that arrest on Friday. According to multiple reports, Smith faces charges of DUI with prior conviction and refusal to submit to chemical test, hit-and-run and vandalism. His arraignment is set for October 6.

Doubt he sees the field this year, and I bet he's a Cowboy next season.

In jack del Rios debut the failures were booed off the field by their adoring fans after trailing at half time 24 to 0. Couldn't happen to a better coach or team.

Carr also hurt his wrist hand in the 2nd quarter. I don't know how serious the injury was but it appeared to be His left wrist seeing the video. This certainly will hurt the Raiders if he isn't able to play for a bit.

What a breath of fresh the new coaching staff brings to the Bronco's organization. Things like resting vets during TC and this week being able to think out of the box and practice in the evening for an up-coming evening game. Not the chew nails to strengthen the gums attitude of Fox and JDR.

At what point do we just move the Raiders to the Pac 16?

Pretty sure Oregon would not only be more entertaining, but significantly more competitive as well

There's a place in hell for people that make fun as children as handicapped as the Raiders.

I'm glad the Raiders aren't children.

I heard Goodell fronted this to the conference a few years back but they couldn't work out the GPA exemption.

If that team contines to suck, the only motivation will be burying himself amd not a football.

Charles Woodson wants first INT against Peyton

"it would be great to get my hands on one of Peyton's balls."

About the worst way he could have worded that

Does he not know that despite losing arm strength Manning still has the ability to rip a man's penis off in one tug?

If past is prologue, Woodson's going to get a face full of Peyton's balls.
