Default Welcome Daesean Hamilton, WR Penn State

Smooth WR, smart, runs good routes and gets good separation.

They are trying to wipe DT and ES off the cap after the year.

Good. Go be old and expensive somewhere else.

My notes on Hamilton:

WR DAESEAN HAMILTON PENN STATE

Michigan (2017): Playing slot. Nice blocking in run game down the field. Had key block on QB sweep for a TD, really walled off the DB and held the block for awhile. He’s very consistent with dominant run blocking, definitely one of the best blocking WRs in this draft. Press man, sluggo route to the outside from slot, chunk gain. Hitch route, good aggression lowering his shoulder and trying to run over the safeties. Tried the same sluggo route from earlier, beat the jam, this time ball hung up a little and CB swatted it away. Off man, sluggo route to the other side, roasted that CB for a nice over the shoulder catch and chunk gain. Lost his balance on the catch though, could have gone for more. Off man, inside slant from slot, gave a nice outside deke, showed good speed for a chunk gain. Runs really precise routes, sharp cuts, doesn’t have a lot of quickness, just really smooth in his fakes and breaks. Scramble drill, ran a crosser to sideline, nice catch to help out QB. Press man, inside slant from slot, the CB has no chance, he’s too smooth with his outside fake and transition into the inside slant. Can’t do anything but freeze and see what’s he doing. Would like to see how he does on that route against a jam. Does a good job using his body to shield defender when making contested catches. He’s really polished, not sure how athletic he is, looks above average, but he’s kind of a plug and play type from the slot.

Michigan State (2017): Playing slot. Zone, crossing route, QB threw it too high, couldn’t make one handed stab. Tried though, went up and exposed his ribs in heavy traffic, got walloped. Press man, slant from slot, roasted CB on route and after the catch for a TD. Hitch route, caught ball wide open with a lot of space, made three DBs miss by jumping out of their arm tackles. Nice play, showed some wiggle and agility. Crossing route, zone, got smashed at catch point, held on. Tough guy. On the next play, off man, slant, dropped pass. Looked like he was worried about getting smashed again. A little concerned about his speed, getting locked down a bit by the CBs in press, not getting any separation on his crossing routes. Made tackle on an interception to save a TD. Out route, press man, tackled immediately, minimal gain. Off man, inside screen with three blockers, cut back across the middle, made three guys miss, broke two arm tackles, solid chunk gain. Little flare pass, showing some agility and cut back moves. Definitely has some elusiveness to him, he’s not sudden or overly quick, he just has good agility and weaves through the defense well. Thought he showed some toughness, though I think he was concussed the entire 2nd quarter after that big hit, he was just off. Looked normal in second half, showed off his agility and YAC ability.

Washington (2017): Playing slot. Press man, jam, sluggo route to the outside from slot for a TD. This was a great play, first he beat the jam easily, this is his premier route, so cool to see he can do it against a physical press CB. Second, it was a nice over the shoulder catch after which he broke an arm tackle by the CB trailing him and then ran through the safety for the TD. Great play. Press man, jam, inside slant for short gain. Jamming him is not messing up his route ability at all. Pancake on CB on run block. Press man, seam route from slot, gave CB a little deke and then took off, perfect job slowing and using his body to shield the CB and make the over the shoulder catch for a TD. This guy might be the most pro ready WR in this draft in terms of polish. He’s so refined at everything he does from blocking to route running to proper catch technique. We’re talking impact rookie plug and play type, he’s ready to start Day 1. His athleticism is probably capped at above average, but he has enough speed and wiggle to be effective, especially with the separation he gets with his routes and physicality. Love his aggression and technique in run blocking as well, holds his blocks as well as any WR in this draft.

I usually don't say this, but Eldonk and company are kicking ass in the draft this year.

That's good to hear. Mayock seems very impressed with Denver's draft.

If this means the end of the McKenzie Adventure on ST, then I'm okay with it.

VJ gonna be bummed that he can't run his favorite guy out there anymore and have punts bounce off his face mask, though.

I don't get the DT hate. Most teams would kill for a receiver that consistently got 1000 yards with bottom dwelling QB play.

It is pretty amazing isn't it? Guys who helped us win a Super Bowl, were part of the highest scoring offense in NFL history also...now held in low esteem because we drafted a 4th rounder with average size, speed and production.

The draft makes everyone dumber.

Not sure Henderson is a lock. I really like he game, but he has done literally nothing to earn a roster spot.
