Smurf is a fun poster, but clearly a bit loose in the head. He's conscientious. Don't you remember the pictures he showed us of him in his brand new hockey gear...because he was sauced. He was formidable to say the least. Maybe 13 year olds are that developed in jacksonville. Let's give the Smurf the benefit of the doubt here. Let's just chalk up his screeching about laying off of Sean Avery to youthful idealism, and assume that he's not a complete dumbass. |

![]() Back on subject. Has there been a more fun Avalanche team to watch (besides the two Cup winners)? This Colorado team is always a threat to score and never gives up when they're down. It's amazing to think they've beaten Dallas when trailing by a goal with less than 2 minutes remaining in the third period two times in a row. The Stars hardly ever lose a thrid period lead, let alone in back to back playoff games.
Joe Sakic and Rob Blake are playing like they're 28, not in their late-30's. Andrew Brunette has gone from the answer to a trivia question (who scored the last goal on Patrick Roy) to a very important player on a rejuvinated team. Skrastins and Clark are the most unlikely shutdown defense pairing I've ever seen. Give Lacroix credit for getting those two guys for nothing. Even Brisebois had a strong game. Alex Tanguay had two goals, including the game winner, but needs to get his head back in the game. He's taking way too many penalties in the offensive zone. He almost cost the team again tonight after taking another stupid penalty at the end of a second period. Hejduk didn't help by taking another penalty after Tanguay's, but at least he was on the PK and trying to make something happen (Blake would have had a breakaway if the ref swallowed his whistle). As far as Theodore, he's letting in a lot of flukey goals and screened shots. He hasn't had a chance to face a lot of easy shots and get into a grove. It seems like either the Avs block the Dallas shots or they will get through on a screen. I think Theo's biggest problem is his smaller size; bigger goalies like Roberto Luongo give shooters less open net when they're being screened. I hope some of the Dallas players like Mike Modano and Jason Arnott give up before game 4. Lord knows Bill Geurin already has. I'd like a relatively easy game after two emotional, overtime wins. |

![]() I think I just heard on Altitude that Guerin only played 13 minutes tonite? That just doesn't seem right if you're trying to win a game.

![]() This is where the Avs need to buck the trend of past playoff seasons and put an opponent away. No getting extended for an extra game or two, finish them off and get some rest before round 2. Let the other teams beat the hell out of each other while they sit back and remain healthy while waiting for an opponent.

As to the first paragraph...I agree completely as I've already said pretty much the exact same thing tit for tat. (Edit: I meant to address the fact that earlier tonight I mentioned that both Sakic and Blake look young) Skrastins is a very steady defenseman...he plays smart and tough. There's no denying that while Clark had a decent season...he's playing tremendous hockey when it counts the most...the playoffs. Tanguay is starting to come around...his slalom through the stars defense early in the game is proof of that. Right now he's playing with a rook and Jim Dowd who is playing very good. If we're giving grace periods to guys who didn't get a lot of ice time leading up to the playoffs...Alex deserves one. Tanger will produce points, but clearly the penalties he's taken the past two games are just bone headed, and must stop. Good call on Tay-o-doors problem being his smaller size. That's why in a previous post I pointed out that he is never going to get his huge pads back...so it's time for him to play good solid hockey. He's all over the place. Sprawling hither and thither. Yes it's the D's job to prevent shots(in response to another post)...but ultimately it's his job to stop the gawd damned puck. That's why he makes the huge money. I don't care how many games he's had with the team...he's in the midst of the greatest tournament in pro sports...his team is picking him up left and right...it's time for him to be the goalie he's paid to be. He needs to be better than Aebischer. Right now he's not. He didn't have a clue on either Stu Barnes' or Zubov's goals. Neither were screened. He does make some fine saves...but he needs to be more consistent. He needs to earn his dough, and make a liar out of naysayers like me. I hope I'm wrong. What netminder in the playoffs (aside from Turco) is Tay-o-door going to outplay man to man. Sooner or later it will come down to that. It still may in this series. ![]() Theo was riding the pine as well before he got hurt. I said that Theo has to be better than Abby, and he hasn't been...so what if Abby is taking Tay-o-doors place as Huet's backup. It's at a much friendlier price.

![]() Bronx...has Tay-o-door shown you anything in THESE playoffs that give you any confidence in him?
He's looked completely clueless on more than a couple of the goals he's given up the past two games. |

Iam just saying woulda coulda shoulda really don't matter if your going to chew somebody out it would probably be PL the one who made the deal, i really don't think it was for this years playoff run because PL knows we don't have what it take to go the distance. But more likely for next season, is theo is worth the money? i guess that yet to be seen but i wouldn't use his proformance in the playoffs as a tell all see all for the future.
