Goddamn cheap ass Yankees. Every ****ing off-season they find a reason to not "overspend" on young IFA talent. A purely unproven guy with potential they have no issue handing 2+ mil to, a guy who is close to ML ready and can contribute soon they find reasons not to sign. SMH.

The Madres are making some noise this offseason, making the NL West a lot more interesting. Preller added some key pieces without giving up any top prospects, that's a good offseason.

The Padres might have had the most apathetic fan base in baseball, always playing for tomorrow. Now there's a national buzz with the team.

The Padres were able to keep prospects RHP Matthew Wisler, C Austin Hedges and OF Hunter Renfroe, arguably their top 3.

But SS Trea Turner was a loss. He posted a .400-plus OBP in his pro debut. The Padres don't really have a long-term, in-house option at SS.

LHP Max Fried was coming off Tommy John but had the highest ceiling of any Padres pitcher in their minors.

Yup. The kid wanted to be a Yankee, too. Cashman wanted him badly. The Steinbrenners wouldn't go any higher.

I think the Padres are going to be contenders. It's going to be a tough division.

What do you think about the Dodgers Julio Urias? Lots of hype about him lately and even some are thinking he's going to be the next Fernandomania.

Josh Hamilton suspended for 80 games for undiscosed reasons. My guess is serious drugs. He got it together for long enough to make a couple hundred million before caving again.

He should have shut the hell up and stayed in Texas. LA was a bad fit for him and his lifestyle needs. Sometimes you need to give up a little bit of the money for the comfort and sanity.
The unique support system he had with the Rangers is something no other team was likely to reproduce.

He's something else. At 16, Urias went to the Midwest League and immediately was a strikeout machine even though he was still developing his curveball and changeup and still filling into his body. He was a sophomore in HS age and was overwhelming 19-23 year olds.

He doesn't have the nastiest stuff, but he is developing into a guy with three quality pitches and has a strong feel for pitching.

Urias could have helped the Dodgers as a reliever last October but I think the organization doesn't want to be liberal with his service time. I think he will be the first pitcher to debut at age 19 (2016 MLB season) since Felix Hernandez in 2005.

Kyle Kendrick is the Rockies' Opening Day starter. Kendrick averaged 5.5 strikeouts per 9 IP with Philadelphia in 2014.

Now if ANA can just find a way to get out of that contract.
Gave up re-signing Greinke for this!?!?! Unbelievable.

That's where all the rocky players went after Trout destroyed them.
Of course Josh took care of the tab.

Confirming their worst fears, the Boston Red Sox announced Wednesday night that Christian Vazquez, who was to have begun the season as the team's No. 1 catcher, will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Thursday.

They weren't going to trade away Blake Swihart or Mookie Betts for Hamels. What this means they will go with the veteran catchers they brought in and we may see Swihart mid season.

The arrogance of Red Sox fans is unreal.

I don't hear Sox fans ever complain about trading Hanley Ramirez for Josh Beckett. That's because Boston won the World Series with Beckett in 2007.

Cole Hamels has a favorable contract and is a value when one considers the $200 million-plus deals that Johnny Cueto and Jordan Zimmermann will command in the offseason.

Blake Swihart is a fine prospect but there's a 50-50 bust rate at the catching position. I think Ryan Hanigan can hold down the fort for one year with his defensive rep until Christian Vasquez is healthy again.

The Sox should pull the trigger. They don't have a No. 1 or No. 2 starter.
