The Cheaps games should be easy for whoever is running the defense.

Don't even bother defending the long ball.

And play the screen pass on third down.

We can say this won't matter but we have no idea what Fox does or how important he may be.

So..now chiefs instead of facing backup QB will be facing backup coach.

Get well soon Foxy!

I think JDR will make a great HC in the meantime. I wouldn't mind him as the permanent HC if Fox retires soon. His Jags teams were always tough, physical teams, and I very much believe he did well there considering what he had to work with.

We are extremely fortunate to have the kind of experience JDR brings. The Broncos should be fine. Its also early enough in the season to adjust for post season if need be.

I really like the approach I'm hearing.

I got to tell you this team is battle tested. They've seen everything this season and this is one more hurdle. I hope this is all toughening us up for a great playoff run. We've had to overcome so much adversity and been able to play well enough to win most weeks. This is just one more hurdle.

Fox recuperating from surgery. http://www.thedenverchannel.com/spor...-heart-surgery

Denver Broncos head coach John Fox is recovering from aortic heart valve replacement at a Charlotte-area hospital.

Broncos Exec. VP of Football Operations John Elway announced in a press conference Monday that Fox underwent surgery around 6 a.m. MT Monday. Elway said he had spoken to Fox last night, who was in good spirits.

"He was ready to take this head-on and understood where he was. And so, I just tried to comfort him and let him know to take care of himself and that family and we'll keep this thing on the tracks until he gets back," Elway said.

I thought the surgery was scheduled for today? Hope they weren't forced to rush it due to some change in condition.

Now that he has had the surgery and is in recovery I feel better about saying this.

I bet if Fox had to list himself on the injury report he would put the injury as "heart burn" and list himself as probable.

In the search for silver lining, this does provide as a refocus point for the team...this situation can definitely be used as a jolt of energy and hopefully carry on for the rest of the season even when/if John Fox gets back.

I'm wondering what Elway's thoughts are for the long term. Obviously we have to wait for doctors and all that, but what if Fox's coaching career is done?

John Fox will be in my thoughts and his 28-12 record as Broncos head coach will not be forgotten...especially his 20-4 record for the past 2 years. Fox is a great people person and always seems to have his players under control and focused...rarely do you see anyone on a John Fox team act out.... and I definitely wish to see him as a Broncos coach again.

JDR should provide some intensity to this team and hopefully we'll step it up defensively this 2nd half of the season.

I think it's going to take some time for him to get back on the sideline, but I have no doubt he'll be back much sooner running this team on from a suite.

Nope, the tuesday speculation was just an estimate time when it was offered on Sat night or Sunday. Happens all the time and Fox was already in the hospital for observation so they often go for it early than the planned time in such cases Rohirrim.

Once the surgeons were all prepped and ready to go the soon the better as he gets an extra day of healing under his belt and gets back to work that much faster.

That being said, dont expect him to be doing cartwheels on the sidelines anytime soon. This was chest cracker surgery and on a heart lung bypass. It will take the starch out of him for a while and even when he is able to comeback to the office and help out with game planning and other duties.

As such, I seriously doubt he will have the energy to maintain anything close to his former in season head-coaching hours for the remainder of this season. Maybe he can more or less resume his duties sometime during the playoffs, but by that time, jsut having him on the sidelines and making a contribution should be enough and it might be wiser not to rock the apple cart again once the playoffs begin assuming we are rolling strong by then as I fully expect.

Fox will very likely be back in at least a supporting role with the team and help with game planning, player management and inspiration etc etc by the last game of the regular season and almost certainly , if all goes according to plan, by the first playoff game.

Just dont expect him to have anywhere near the stamina of a 18 hour a days head coach for the rest of this season and post season.

However, he will very likely feel increasingly like a new man after getting a new aortic valve when hes was dysfunctional enough to require rather urgent replacement surgery in mid season. He has very likely been slowed down in action and thought speed as well for some time and getting too little oxygen all around. He might want to coach a few more years with vigor, but my hunch is if went the SB this year he will retire and go out on top... perhaps with Manning too if we win it all. though Peyton might want a shot at going out with back to back wins .. depends on how the next three months plays out.
