Sales Of Alejandro Villanueva Jerseys Skyrocket After Being Only Steeler To Stand For National Anthem

Alejandro Villanueva jersey sales are skyrocketing after he was the lone member of the Pittsburgh Steelers to stand for the national anthem before Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears.

On Fanatics.com Villanueva’s jersey is now the top selling Steelers jersey, and one of the top selling jerseys in the entire NFL.

The rest of the Steelers remained in the locker room and tunnel behind Villanueva during the national anthem.

NFL fans were moved by Villanueva’s decision to emerge from the tunnel and stand for the anthem with his hand over his heart.

Villanueva is an ex-Army Ranger who served three tours in Afghanistan and is a bronze star recipient.

The Steelers elected as a team not to appear on the field for the national anthem before the game.

Head coach Mike Tomlin said he didn’t want the team to be divided.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin appeared to take a swipe at the Bronze Star recipient's decision in a post-game press conference. Tomlin told the media that, prior to kickoff Sunday, the Steelers held a team meeting and decided, though not unanimously, to not come out of the locker room for the national anthem.

“Like I said, I was looking for 100 percent participation, we were gonna be respectful of our football team,” Tomlin said when asked about Villanueva ignoring the order and coming out for the anthem.

Tomlin added the intent was to have his team focus on the game and not President Trump’s comments blasting players who chose to protest during the playing of "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Read that earlier. Lost a ton of respect for Tomlin because of that comment.

Dude did 3 tours in hell. He's more entitled to his opinion than anyone. You best shut your hole.

Matt Light says he's 'ashamed to be a Patriot' with national anthem protests

https://sports.yahoo.com/m/03a12d78-...27ashamed.html

A handful of New England Patriots made a statement by taking a knee during the national anthem ahead of the team’s game against the Houston Texans on Sunday. Former Patriots tackle Matt Light did not agree with that statement. “If you think that it’s OK to take a knee during our national anthem and disrespect openly the national anthem, you are wrong,” Light told the Boston Herald after Sunday’s game. “I don’t care if you have a ‘but what about’ or a ‘it’s because of,’ that doesn’t’ matter.” Light said the kneeling would never have happened when he was with the Patriots. “As a guy that’s been there and helped set up the Patriot Way so they can walk in there and do what they do, it’s beyond disheartening,”

Jessie James Decker says NFL husband was tricked into national anthem protest

Country star Jessie James Decker is being criticized for defending her NFL husband, who she says unknowingly participated in a national anthem demonstration.

Before a Sunday game between the Tennessee Titans (for which Jessie’s husband, Eric, is a wide receiver) and the Seattle Seahawks, both teams remained in their respective locker rooms during the national anthem. On Monday, Jessie told TMZ, “My husband was not made aware it was time to go out for the game. Unfortunately a decision was made for him without him knowing.”

Ben Roethlisberger Regrets Steelers Boycotting Anthem; Trump Supports Fan Boos

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...anthem-1042616

"I personally don’t believe the Anthem is ever the time to make any type of protest," the Super Bowl-winning QB says.

Ben Roethlisberger on Monday afternoon released a statement saying he regretted his Pittsburgh Steelers boycotting the national anthem on Sunday.
The NFL team was the first of three to not come out for the pregame ritual.
"I was unable to sleep last night and want to share my thoughts and feelings on our team’s decision to remain in the tunnel for the National Anthem yesterday," the Super Bowl-winning QB said in a statement. "The idea was to be unified as a team when so much attention is paid to things dividing our country, but I wish we approached it differently. We did not want to appear divided on the sideline with some standing and some kneeling or sitting.
He continued, "As a team, it was not a protest of the flag or the Anthem. I personally don’t believe the Anthem is ever the time to make any type of protest. For me, and many others on my team and around the league, it is a tribute to those who commit to serve and protect our country, current and past, especially the ones that made the ultimate sacrifice."

Some people are all for giving certain individuals both the first and last word, but only when they agree with what's being said.

As soon as conflicting opinion comes in, suddenly they're no longer interested in dialog.

Just curious, do you go on all the media outlets all over the country's sites who are reporting on this and accuse them of trolldom?

How's that working out?

Troll threads don't invite dialogue. They inflame. Like I said, not surprised at all that you support the troll.

Yes. I saw that. It was posted on a few other threads. Guess it needs it's own thread now, though.

I think Tomlin's **** comment on it needs some air.

People all verklempt over players' rights to self-expression should be a little pissed. Especially considering the dude's resume.

A person who served the corporate war machine for that long is either monumentally stupid or morally bankrupt. His opinion means jack.

Thanks for proving the point.

None of this is truly about free speech or a player's right to self-expression.

It's about anti-Americanism getting the air some so desperately want it to have.

Nobody seems to pick up on what happened here. Trump trolled the NFL, just like he's been trolling NK, and everything else for 9 months. There's a troll in the White House, and he's turning the national dialogue of the nation into the equivalent of Twitter trolling. Pick a side and troll!
