Default Fans upset by protests can get Sunday Ticket refunds

Just. Wow.

DirecTV is offering unprecedented refunds for fans who want to cancel their NFL Sunday Ticket package, if they inform the company that they are doing so due to the recent protests during the national anthem, a source confirmed.

Once the season starts, fans usually cannot cancel their subscriptions, but AT&T, which owns DirecTV, decided to change the policy due to the sensitivity of the issue. The price of the package, which allows fans to get out-of-market games, is about $280.

And then DirecTV next year will increase the price of the Sunday Ticket to cover all the losses of the people cancelling their subscriptions this year. So you might want to hold your praise for DirecTV until you see the prices next year, lol.

I've heard of automakers doing this when they have a massive recall. Of course they take all those cars back and repair them for free, but then they add that cost of what they lost and tack it onto the next years models. So it looks like they're doing right by the customers, but they're really still sticking it to you and you're paying for their mistake.

Sure, some people are probably very happy with this move. I don't think DirecTV would have done it if they weren't getting a ton of requests from customers regarding it.

That means they got enough calls to issue a policy about it. Meaning the time spent arguing with customers about it cost more than selling the package. Probably after DirectTv said no refund, the conversation changed to canceling all service.

Soon the NFL will issue a statement saying that they're going to pre 2008 standards. No teams on the field during the anthem. Have to cauterize the wound.

Or it means they got 3 calls, and they know they will lose no money for this PR move.

To be fair, all the crayons and puppies were shipped to Berkeley this week. OP didn't have any safe space toys available.

I think we can assume it is more than three.

Why would a publicly traded business decide to reverse a well know policy on refunds after the season has started?

They probably had a ton of righty snowflakes calling to whine, saying they're boycotting the NFL forever, and When offered the chance cancel their access and get a refund, every one of them said, "wait no, I only wanted to see if I could get it for free."

Because they know not many will actually cancel. They just want to whine and see if they can get it cheaper.

Maybe there are the people you describe, certainly, more will be calling and probably doing what you suggest, but that still doesn't explain why they changed the policy.

Your comment assumes that the ones who take offense to the protests are conservative. In actuality, you have no idea; again you are just assuming. Strong feelings about the flag and national anthem comes from both sides of the isle.

Freedom is a heckuva thing. Next up, fight for the return of free speech on campuses, fight for non-mandated health insurance, and fight for a free internet, etc.

Man, I love the USA!
