I didn't go, though they all asked me why, but I just felt that I just knew him as a football player and didn't want to take a seat of someone who knew him as a person.

So I have kept the program and thought I would share it now that have I the time to be more active on the Mane. Attached is the cover. I will follow-up with the rest of it.

Great post. I was downtown denver that night and it was an emotional next day. RIP DW.

Thanks for sharing, I thought that was an awesome gesture to not take up a seat as a fan but leave it for a family member

I wonder how life is working out for Darrent's cousins? Was it a cousin that was with him that night? I seem to remember something about a cousin from texas who might have been throwing gang signs? There was so much stuff at the time it's hard to remember what was fact and what was not.

Will never forget who I was with, where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news. I erupted into sadness.

I simply remember the 2006 season as the one that culminated with the losses of both D Will and Big Al.

Hard to believe Al Wilson only played 8 years for us.......left the game in his prime. We've been searching for a dominant MLB ever since.

I didn't see anything about Javon Walker on there. I thought the two of them were very close.

there are stories about what happened. javon didn't go to the funeral because he didn't think he could take it. he ended up in vegas instead, and the rest is history.

and yeah, I still remember where I was when I heard the news that Darrent was killed. I had gone to the game the night before, too.

My wife and I were in town for his last game vs San Fran in 2006. We woke up to the news of his untimely death. I remember passing the roadblocks the next morning very sad.

D-Will was my favorite player on those teams, he was a little guy but played with a bigger heart than anyone else and was very physical/scrappy for his size. In addition he had something of a knack for big plays, with pick sixes against the chargers and raiders standing out in my mind. Saw the news when I turned on ESPN in the morning and was in disbelief. Hard to realize I would never see "DARRENT WILLIAMS" on the back of a jersey again.

RIP

I still miss his big smile on the sidelines and his even bigger heart on and off the field.

hard to believe it's been 8 years already...

i remember we were hit with a couple of big snowstorms that last week of December (back to back) and i was out shoveling my driveway that morning, sort of in stunned silence at how stupidly somebody's promising future can be ended prematurely by a thug with a gun just by being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I still remember checking the Broncos Website and they had a memorial put up for Darrent within hours of his death. I was so shocked and confused. Javon Walker and Brandon Marshall's involvement are still sad memories for me.

I went the 9ers game, stayed downtown and went home on broadway and saw the cop cars enroute to the drive by shooting so I could have possibly just missed it. Pretty sad deal, him and champ would've locked down the receivers for many years.

Still makes me wonder what could have been had he not been murdered.

I drove by the limo early that morning, thought nothing of it.... Even after the news broke. Then I saw the picture and realized they were the same. DWill was one of my favorite players. He lived at the Boys and Girls club. I always appreciated that he cared about those kids and it wasn't just charity lip service.
