Default Best Broncos All Time Draft by Class

Great article - some of these are making me hungry for our 8 selections in 2018:

Which draft year do you feel was Denver's best all time!?

2018 -
2012 - Derek Wolfe, Brozweiler, Ronnie Hillman, Omar Bolden, Malik Jackson, Danny Trevathan
2011 - Von Miller at 2, Rahim the Dream at 45, Orlando Franklin 46, Nate Irving 67, Julius Thomas 129, Virgil Green 204, Chris Harris UDFA!
2010 - DThomas at #22, Tim Tebow at 25, Beadles at 45, Walton at 80, Decker at 87, Perrish Cox at 137
2006 - We trade up to get Jay Cutty; then grab these gems - Brandon Marshall, Tony Sheffler, Elvis Dumervil, Chris Kuper* (ty CEH)
1985 - 1st round: Sooner Steve Sewell, 2nd round pick: Vance Three Amigos Johnson, 2nd round pick: Simon Fletcher
1983 - Elway Trade, Kubiak in 8th, Mecklenburg in 12th

Tony Sheffler isn't a gem. And Rahim is a case against that class.

Scheffler was actually pretty solid for us. Averaged 474 yards and 3.5 TD's for us in his Denver Broncos career.

He was actually more productive for us than Julius Thomas 320.5 yards and 6 TD's.

2011 is considered one of the top 5 drafts all time in the NFL and we got the #2 pick...that looking back was an all-time #1 pick. Richard Sherman in the 5th round would have sealed the deal here.

Don't forget that in 2006 we also made a trade on draft day....sending our 2nd round pick to GB for Javon Walker....who had a very good season that year. But also ended with Darrent Williams dying in his arms.

2006 was an odd season. We started out 7-2, then dropped 2 games to go to 7-4, but still (obviously) well in the playoff hunt. It was at that point, Shanny decided to start Cutler for the final 5 games.....and we finished 9-7 and missed the playoffs. If I recall correctly.....in the final regular season game.....we played SF and had either a 16-0 or 19-0 lead at one point.....but blew the game, and missed the playoffs as a result.

Then that evening DW was killed......

Shanny had horrible drafts in the 2000s except 2006. They make Elway’s drafts look pretty good.

It makes them look decent, let's not get carried away now.
Ball was akin to Watts.

the Broncos got Chris Harris as a udfa that year.

I did not argue any of that. I just don't think he adds anything to the strength of a draft class. And he sure isn't what I would call "a gem" by any measurement.

Tony Scheffler was an average tight end, taken at a pick that should produce above average to very good TE's.

If drafted him in the seventh round, I would agree. Or if he was Todd Heap at the same pick.

Given the context of the Broncos draft history, that is a gem for us.
