Not pour water on the muddled masses, but I am not sure about the hysterical reaction to this clearly "drummed up for late May-June" article. It was a botched and confused statement for sure. But I think it's more indicative of VJ misremembering.

Chubb hasn't played a down yet and needs to learn the pro game and pro speed. During camp he'll be moved all over and asked to do a lot of things, many which will suit his abilities and comfort level, and others intentionally designed to get him outside his comfort level to see how he handles it. They also want to see whom he works best with for package creation.

Also the whole "you have this coach" thing isn't like a super concrete thing where you only talk to that coach. It's just who you're grouped with during position meetings. All the coaches contribute and when they run unit and team drills, it's way more fluid. It's not like the D-line coach isn't allowed to ever speak to the linebackers.

The last, and most ridiculous aspect of this thread title, is the idea that VJ is going to "ruin" Bradley Chubb. The only way that happens is if they put Chubb at like Tight End. A confusing answer in a press conference from a coach who is often thoughtless about his remarks in those situations doesn't equate to thoughtlessness in how he has players prepare, work and perform on the field. The defense was good last year with a pretty rough schedule.

Chubb could bust. Most rookies do. But if he does, it won't be because of VJ.

This just in, VJ announced sweeping changes with team this year: "We want to change things up a little bit. We want our best athletes on the field at all times, so in that respect, we're moving Von Miller to slot receiver and Bradley Chubb to Tight End."

When asked by reporters why he thought that was a good idea, coach Joseph answered, "Because I am having. The time. Of my LIFE!" he then jumped in a golf cart painted with flames and drove into a ditch.

Barrett was Kubiaks pick up. And Harris came from Allen. I thought we were only talking rookies.

I知 not saying they値l will ruin him, just that anything can happen when VJ is in charge.

"Anything can happen" is a meaningless statement. Especially in the context of this conversation.

Ok.

鄭nything more negative than positive can happen when VJ is in charge.

I wonder if he at least knows clocks still run going out of bounds in the 4th quarter before 5 mins.

Just wanted to remind everyone where your hatred of Elway was born from. And point out how silly it is. Elway likes winning. He isn't interested in making things about him, especially if it isn't conducive to winning.

I'm only interested in what's probable. I generally tend to agree with a lot of the complaints against VJ here. However we don't need to make stuff up to be critical of him. He's many things, but a "ruiner of players" is not one I see evidence for. Poor utilizer, certainly. But I don't think he's ruined anyone.

Walker had a disastrous rookie year that was directly affected by VJs decision(or signing off to it) to move/lose weight with him. That痴 a clear example as you can get. It痴 too early to gauge any long term on 2017 rookie class, but the only impact they had so far was pissing off veterans like Wolfe. VJ should own some of the that.

Fair enough. This statement you just made is WAY more reasonable than "VJ will ruin Chubb." I can respond to this:

VJ, by all accounts, tends to delegate. He has an idea for what he wants his coaches to do, tells them and then lets them do it their way. The decision to move Walker out of position didn't come in a vacuum.

Joe Woods is a good defensive coordinator. His worst aspect is being the guy who replaced Wade. Even with a turnover-prone, disaster offense that lead to the defense finishing 22nd in scoring defense, they were top ten in the other categories, and top five in most.

My next response to Walker was already made, and that's the improved play of other players on defense and along the defensive line specifically. When it's a mixed bag, where other projects are achieving, it's hard for me to accept that any ruining of players is going on, and even if it were, that it would be VJ's fault.

Finally, I want to remind everyone of the reasons he was out of position, because they provide some context: First, it was a body-weight issue, meaning he needed to pick up some weight that he likely dropped to perform well during the combine before he could play D-line effectively, especially in a 3-4. This is as much a safety reason as it is an effectiveness reasons. Second, multiple accounts indicated he was not giving good effort during special teams.

The NFL has a hierarchy and a culture of being a player for the team and willing to do everything to earn playing time. You can get out of ST when you earn time as an elite starter, but you earn that time playing well on special teams and making the most of the opportunities the staff rewards you with. And even then it doesn't mean you're off the hook. The Patriots use more starters on their ST units than most other places.

Using players where they are most likely to succeed is important, but so is making sure players understand they're part of a team and need to be willing to do everything for the team for the team to succeed. Even if they were top dog at FSU, that doesn't mean they are anymore. They need to earn the coaches trust, and more importantly, the players' respect by paying their dues.

So there is more to the story than just "he's out of position, the Broncos are stupid." If DeMarcus learns to be a team player, uses his offseason program right to get his body the way it needs to be, and then is able to return to his natural position, then we can evaluate if it really was a dumb move and the Broncos "ruined him." Personally, I think a player who doesn't want to play ST, especially as a rookie, is more likely to be blamed for his bad development than any coach.
