Very glad that FIFA is getting called out in all the media lately. Honestly though, in terms of least negative impact, the US or other developed countries already packed with modern stadiums (Germany, England, etc) are better hosts for these events. No wasteful/rushed/deadly construction projects, no mass destruction of poor communities to make way, etc. Added security state insanity probably still inevitable, but still preferable to the moral atrocities taking place in Brazil and Qatar.

We're at an interesting place now where almost all western democracies are starting to reject hosting the Olympics as the citizen don't want that cluster**** coming to town. Only China and a few autocracies are even showing interest in bidding on next winter Olympic opening.

The leaders love using the Olympics/World Cup to remake the geography and laws of their country under the cover of "preparing" for the event. People are catching on to this, seeing beneath the veneer of "national pride" in hosting an event that will ultimately harm them more than a little PR will help.

In terms of the actual game, a lot of ****ty injuries piling up right before the tourney:

http://www.cbssports.com/world-cup/e...-the-world-cup

Ribery, Falcao, Reus, etc. Saurez and Ronaldo enter coming off injuries. Banged up Ronaldo would be huge break for US, but I won't hold my breath.

Argentina as well. As much as I hate to admit, I don't see the Euros winning this thing.

I don't see anyone taking it away from Brazil, hometurf, crazy crowd. They will also be used to the food, heat, weather, water etc. I do expect to see some European teams really disappoint this year.

Not that we should read TOO much into it, but how bad did spain look against brazil in the confederations cup

True. But Del Bosque is a crafty old dude who deserves all the credit he gets. He won't come in v Brazil with the same plan or 11. Brazil should be the favorite but this Spanish group really exudes confidence and has always elevated its game when its had to. The question is whether their midfielders are a)too small and b)have too many miles on the tires.

I don't think that we have a real chance of win it. Brasil , Spain, Germany and maybe Portugal, Italy are better than us.

France will be good in 2016 at home.

We aren't very sad about Ribery here in France in fact... He is a real moron and Griezmann will be good if Deschamps let him play.

1/4 final I think would be ok for us.

Portugal? with a gimpy Ronaldo (of which i think he will be fit when the WC starts), I think you're giving them too much credit. However, I don't hear to many people talk about the Oranje.

The oranje have talent but without van der wart and stroutman it will be difficult. Their défense is suspect at best.

spanish midfield has always been small, but they still dominate. this time, i think the tires on Xavi are worn out. i hope he can still work his magic for one more tourney. him and iniesta are the heart of the team.

Out of the 4 major sports in the states, only the NFL is willing to thinking forward instead of keeping traditions and rules that are outdated. This is especially true for soccer.

world cup is the biggest sporting event by far, but i don't think its the best event. i rather watch the euro cup, definitely more quality of play. I also love watching the summer olympics.

would i give up several years of being a bottom dweller for a month of USA glory in the world cup, probably not. What i would like is to see the US growth in talent over the years. Getting guys like a Xavi, Iniesta, Sneider, and have them distribute balls to a droghba and Ibra would be insanse. Then have them gel together and win the world cup. for that, i would give up a 5yrs of raider/chief like suckness. I just hope I can see USA soccer achieve something like this within my lifetime.
Just read my next sentence. FIFA is the worst organization in the world. It pisses me off so hard that we know they took payments and Blatter is so arrogant that he basically admits it and knows we can't do anything about it.

If FIFA and the IOC weren't so corrupt they would just make it a rule that they are only going to go to countries that have a sound infrastructure. Won't hapoen though.

Glad to see you post! Please post more!

The teams you mentioned better than the French. I do agree.

Ribery is Ribery. I think they are better if he's in there versus out.

I think for FFF we are entering next gen and I'm excited!
