Imagine the HOF QBs who played pre-2000 playing in today’s game. They would be lighting it up. They wouldn’t have much fear of getting hit and they’d be throwing to receivers running free through secondaries.

Imagine most QBs of today playing pre-2000. They’d get the crap beat out of them by pass rushers and they’d be throwing to receivers who were worried about getting lit up by DBs.

The QBs of today have better stats. That in no way means that they are better QBs.

Every era is different. You have to embrace that and enjoy the game as it evolves.
Eventually it will cycle back around.

Offensive friendly rules won’t cycle it back. Back then a 300 yard game was celebrated. Today that’s the norm.

Ronnie Lott and Steve Atwater would’ve had multiple suspensions in today’s league. Certainly would’ve made them different players than they were.

I meant more along the lines of strong running game, great defense and winning championships from that.

It was basketball on glass for a few years.

I'd say that the Broncos shouldn't be looking to bring in another QB. Kelly seems to be capable of doing the job.

Just as importantly we'd learn whether we need to keep looking either way.

Didn't have to read farther than me. Kelly is better than any retread we could bring in now. Just roll with Keenum/Kelly.

I think Elway wants to protect Kelly on various levels/reasons and have a vet as a backup just in case.

Those reasons are mental development and get him through an nfl season physically as well. So far it’s been working great, ease him in to every aspect of the game from playing to interviews.

Because that worked so well with Osweiler and Lynch. Siemian was able to handle everything just fine. Trial by fire I say, hopefully Elway doesn't screw this up

We had Lynch as our backup in multiple seasons. Kelly >>>>>> Lynch. Therefore this line of thinking makes no sense.

If it was up to VJ Kelly would be it.

Elway continues to ruin the QB position if he brings someone in.

That's what worries me most. Elway is a ****ing master at making bad decisions with the QB position. We're talking Matt Millen level **** ups here.

I'm not buying that. Last night VJ said he was #2 for now. I think his initial reaction was his own. What I do think is Kelly has played so well Kubiak and Elway might have even sobered up for a moment last night to notice it.

this GM/HC relationship just sucks. why doesn't VJ just come out and say "I'm not in charge of personnel, I coach the players I have in front of me" otherwise he's just walking on egg shells to hopefully not cross Elway's potential moves. the entire relationship is just completely counter productive. VJ can't come out and say Kelly is 100% our guy at backup because he doesn't know what Elway is doing

I think Elway has seen enough, in that he and the coaches can trust Kelly to not only back up Keenum, but provide some push to Keenum to keep him on his toes. Keenum played better last year when he had two injured vet QB’s returning, and ready to take his job away. They never did.

The ideal scenario is for Elway to trade away Lynch’s salary for a bag of chips, and that is what he is hoping to do; but cut him or trade him, Elway may still want a back up though as the backup to Kelly.

I guess the question is, do you bring in a scrub to finish out the pre-season or do you just let Lynch do that? Starters won’t see the field in PS Game 4, so you have to have a 3rd team QB.

Just sign a practice arm to finish preseason.

THIS! Lynch is liable to not only lose the game he is liable to injure everyone that plays with his poor decisions. He make s everyone worse.

AND the move should happen NOW, so that the practice arm at least gets some reps with the 2s and threes.

When are the first cuts supposed to happen? How soon can we cut him? If Lynch is not on that list, let the boos rain down. At least if they dont cut him yet, please keep him off the field. He has Ortons personality and demeanor and fans hate that ****

His salary is guaranteed no matter when they cut him, but it’s the dead cap hit that would have a bit of a sting to it. I have no doubts that Elway knows he can’t have Lynch on the roster in Sept., so he is trying to find a team to send him to.

Maybe he can be part of a package deal where all the pick value is for another player and Lynch’s is just a throw in. Hell, it would be worth it to send Lynch and a 2020 7th rd pick to another team just to dump his salary. That would make more sense than just cutting him.

Btw, even if Lynch is on the roster next week, he probably won’t play, or if he does, it’s at the very end of the game when he can’t screw it up any more than he already has.

Lynch has no more home games. He will stay till end of preseason. They are not bringing in Nic Stevens for 1 game.

there is literally no reason to put him on the field again. he already blew one game, and he can't even play at a high enough level for guys to compete and show what they're capable of. the guy is a total joke at the position and we'll likely have to eat that dead money.
