Completely agree that we have never really prioritized the position as much as we should. I worry about the impact that Kubes had on drafting and picking up certain players though during his tenure. As you can see it was lackluster.

Sambrailo - round 2 bust
Garcia - round 4 backup - I would also consider him stronger in other schemes
McGovern - round 5 - I like him a lot and think he is a solid starter

FA Pickups
Ryan Harris - mediocre at best
Shelley Smith - not good
Gino Gradkowski - not good
Okung - solid stop gap, only 1 year here
Donald Stephenson - not good

Just awful pickups in general outside of McGovern and Okung. Only 2 of these player remain on the roster with only 1 being starter quality. We need to inject talent badly and we cannot keep grabbing bad bodied/undersized players. How much say Kubes had in these evaluations and pickups is obviously up for debate.

Everyone relax. The new line will be run by Dennison and built around Sam Jones. What could go wrong? Also Phillip Lindsay is a little too shifty for this scheme, probably should trade him to the Rams for CJ.

you can call Ryan Harris a free agent pick up and you are technically correct but we also did draft him. He also has a super bowl ring.

Yup, I remember when we took him out of ND back in the Shanny days. Also, because someone has a ring, especially in a team sport, does not mean they are exceptional at their job

Just look what happened to the Colts offense after they picked a stud guard (Nelson) in the first round, last year.

Night and day.

Finally, Luck had a chance to go through his progressions - and find the open receiver.

They’ve been building that line for a few years now.

It's not just Nelson, they took Braden Smith who plays RT.

Nelson, Kelly, Costanzo all 1st round picks, Braden Smith 1st round talent, Glowinski is a solid player.

If you want a good line, you gotta invest in it.

Easy to be a fan of a HC during his welcoming press conference. We will have to gauge the locker room again and mid-season to see how it is going.

Harris and Clady gave up some rediculous number of 1.5 sacks that year. That was a great tandem, until Harris had back issues and Clady tore his ACL

That stud guard was certainly a significant factor. Night and day difference. Not by himself. Luck is much more significant and they improved at other positions.

This PC had a completely different vibe to it than VJ’s intro PC 2 yrs ago. “The leader of men” looked like a deer in the headlights, and I am sure it was just dawning on him while looking into the cameras what he was getting himself in to.

In contrast, Fangio looked very comfortable up there, and even sparred with the media at times. The thing about Fangio is that his “floor” as a HC is going to be much higher than a much younger hotshot and trendy OC that most of the league is seeking. Elway bucked the trend, and I am glad he did because most likely many of those teams looking for the next Sean McVay, will still be looking 2 yrs from now.

It's nice to have a funny coach again. Haven't had that since Olivio.

I agree. Kubes can't have a backdoor to complain to Elway if things aren't going exactly his way. Fangio needs to own the team and chain of command needs to be followed. If they don't, we'll be no better than the Cowboys from a front office standpoint.

4 of their starting lineman were drafted within the top 40 picks and 3 of them in the first round. Nelson is a stud but that line was clearly a priority prior to his arrival. They have killed their evaluations and hit on high picks.
