Good news is you can't give us inning by inning, play by play

Bad enough SSJ does it all season but mostly game by game and 162 times a year.

Oh, Socalorado must have loved tonight's 2 hitter mostly by CJ Wilson and his 8 solid innings. Hopefully more things to come for him and the Angels. Kept his good stuff coming and didn't try to bring a ton of each type of pitch. Go with what is working well and he did.

Wow. Just wow.
Mariners often go out and get nothing against average/bad pitchers, then go out and score 3-4 runs on cy-young candidates. The worst was when they kept getting nothing against Hector Noesi last year, cause we know how easy he is to score off of. (he had 5 games last year he didn't allow a run, 4 were against the Mariners).

Its gonna come down to SEA and ANA in the last week of the season.
however one will win the WEST and one will be a WC.

Assuming both teams stay healthy, I agree.

The Tigers shutout the Twins again, pounding them 11-0 today.

Anibal Sanchez had a solid start for the Tigers.

That's two shutouts in a row to start the season for Detroit.

The Twins don't have much punch in their lineup and their starting rotation sucks outside of Phil Hughes.

Its a mistake to have him close. Really too bad Rex Brothers lost his control and accuracy because 2 seasons ago he looked like he was on his way to taking over the closers role.

Maybe Betancourt can get back out there later this season. He is on the roster at least.

Forget Betancourt.

Adam Ottavino should be closing games, end of story. He has the best stuff and has been the Rockies best reliever since 2014.

Axford or ottavino should step in. Hoping Darren Holmes can fix Brothers issues like he said he would. I'll hand it to them. Starting pitching has been great so far. It'd be nice if they could keep it up and the Rockies can hold my interest at least till training camp starts.

I certainly wouldn't be opposed to Ottavino taking over closing duties, but the problem is he can give you multiple innings if needed and they relied pretty heavily on him last season as a reliever. Do they have the arms in the bullpen to allow him to move to a full time closers role? We'll have to see.

The hesitance by managers in making a move such as this tends to be the mentality of the player.
Closers have a almost cowboy mentality and enjoy having the game hinge on their performance. They live for it and embrace the role. Some players can easily adjust to this.

Others have a specific mindset that works well when they are not faced with having to close games. Yes they come in with a high leverage situation in their midst but in those situations they can rear back and let it loose.

He should definitely be tried in the role but there is risk involved and as another poster already said. They rely on him for multiple innings and use him heavily as it stands. They would need someone to replace him if he was moved to the closers role.
