Default "Teach Me Tuesday" Ray Crockett's insight to the "Helicopter Play"

Orange and Blue 760 Former Bronco DB Ray Crockett has radio show. Every Tuesday he breaks down plays. This Tuesday he broke down the famous "Helicopter" play during Super Bowl 32.

In the documentary "America's Game" Elway says, "We've been practising this play all week...I said to Mike (Shanahan) 'What if they don't play that defense.' Mike says, 'We've watched their last 8 games. It's guaranteed they're going to play this defense.' Well, the play came in."

At which point the doc cuts to Mike calling in the play "Point Slice". Now this is the part that Crockett was able to shed light here. So during 2 weeks of practise up to Super Bowl 32. Shanahan and the staff identified that the Packers play man-to-man when teams get into their redzone. Shanahan believed that the Packers were going to commit 8 in the box to stop TD and the run. Also, Rod Smith had been running shorter and fade routes. "Point Slice" was a stutter-go route to the back of the endzone. During the "Helicopter" play, the Packers gave two looks. First, they showed man then went to zone. If you remember Elway doesn't run until he gets to the end of his 5 step drop. All the Linebackers had dropped all the way into the endzone.

Thanks for the link.

Great podcast that describes the X&Os of a fooball play along with how great QB play or inspirational plays from your team leaders can help an entire teams performance for the rest of the game.

VJ doesn’t have the ability to take a team to that level of efficiency.

If anybody is looking for a good Broncos station to listen to, I highly recommend 760 Orange and Blue. Its because when the football player has something to say, the host kindly STFU! Unlike, 104.3 the fan and Deebag constantly talks over Alfred.

760 is pretty decent, especially around camp time. Certainly light years better than 104.3. Thats garbage radio. I cant believe some of you still listen to that.

VJ got confused on which down it was in games.

His opinion is based on actual **** ups he’s had over great efficiency that was scant and lacking.
