LA is just terrible IMO. SF is even worse.
If I could afford Carmel, I might live there too! Sounds like you just donít like cities though. Fair nuff

The city is spending billions on building rail now, but I don't think that it's going to help that much. People aren't going to ditch their car.

As for the smog, that's something I rarely ever notice. I've never walked outside and thought that it's a smoggy day. lol
The subway system is a gripe I have too. The city is just too spread out. Itís great that are building a Wilshire line, but I still live 3 miles from it, so what good does it do me. Connected cars are probably LAs best bet

As one who was raised in the South Bay can tell you, Orange County is where things go to die.

Where's that?

The beach areas are awesome! But the bulk of the OC is inland, and there is no need to go there unless you live there.

Yeah. You can party in Newport Beach, but Santa Ana?

Not to mention, that ain't L.A.

It is segmented, but thatís any city really. The traffic blows, but I think most neighborhoods are vibrant enough where you donít care that itís that segmented. I rarely ever go to Santa Monica and Iím cool with that
One of the many great things about LA is that there is something great here for nearly everybody. There's actually many great things for everybody, but some folks get ticked off with the traffic and the misconceptions of the people here to really enjoy everything here.

Every now and then I consider taking the train somewhere. But the problem always is that the station isn't really within walking distance to where I live, and the station where I'm getting off at isn't close to where I'm going. It's just easier and a lot faster to drive and deal with the traffic. Even with all the rail that is being built now, I don't see how it's going to solve that problem. Outside of Manhattan, I'm not familiar with the rail systems in other cities. But in Manhattan, it's perfect because where ever you are or where ever you're going, there is a station that is a short walk away.

I'm not sure who this rail system in LA is going to benefit. Not the masses.

I had a job in Santa Ana for a few months. I never stuck around after work. I also worked at a sports photography company that had a bunch of youth leagues in Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, Lake Forrest, Aliso Viejo, etc. Those area were so mundane.

Laguna Beach-awesome. Laguna Niguel- Office Space.

I lived in LA for 5 years and the traffic finally drove me away. I was just east of PCH in Malibu for a couple of years... that didn't suck.

I think it started from the OPs disdain for the Rams.
