Lots and lots of reasons he deserves serious consideration ... I posted this a week or two ago in the mid-season awards thread:

I have a mid-season projection, NFL Executive of the Year:

. . . JOHN ELWAY

Elway's calm, no-drama management style was fresh air for a shell-shocked team that just hit rock-bottom
A franchise-record 12 losses the year before he took over, now on the brink of 2 Division Titles in 2 years
Elway's first-ever draft pick was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year
His two rookie classes have produced 5 starters and 13 regulars, including NINE on the defensive 2-deep depth chart
Out-maneuvered a dozen veteran GMs to acquire FA-of-the-Decade Peyton Manning. Nothing genius about the signing, but Manning cited John and his respect for the game at the top of his list of reasons why he choose Denver.
Lured NFL Asst Coach of the Year candidate Jack Del Rio to become team's 7th D-Coordinator in 7 years. Next to Manning, Del Rio might be the most important move of the off-season. If John can keep him in place next year, he might earn back-to-back Awards.

Peyton Manning is in the mix for NFL offensive player of the year and comeback player of the year. Von Miller could end up grappling with Houston's J.J. Watt for defensive player of the year. And John Elway's quick rebuilding of a depth-shy, dysfunctional franchise after five years of steady decline could put him on track for Sporting News Executive of the Year honors. .....

I think Fred is up got the Grinch of the Season award too.

Would be great to see John get the award, he's done an amazing job since getting here. The guy truly is the greatest Bronco there'll ever be.

As for Manning, I suspect he'll have a go at coaching after he finishes. Could see him taking a couple of years away from the game when he retires then returning in a HC role.

In the weekly game release the Broncos had a great stat. Of 31 players to start a game this season John Elway is responsible for bringing 23 of them to the team...... An amazing stat given the short duration of his tenure.

Yep, was a little taken aback that the number was so high.

Deserves so much credit for the Miller pick as well. I know that with AJ Green and Patrick Peterson sitting there too it was going to be a hard pick to whiff on, but so far it seems that they took the absolute pick of the litter in Von.

The safe pick at the time was widely agreed to be Dareus but they trusted their instinct and went with Von. With everyone screaming about how badly Denver needed a DT and Miller being projected as a 3-4 guy it was a risky pick in some regards, but damn has it proved to be the right one.
