You haven't paid for ST in over 5 yrs?...

They let you play the threaten to cancel game every year?... that's 1600 bones.... are you bundled? You have an expensive membership? You purchase a ton of pay per views? You have a lot of rooms set up? What's the catch?

This year is the first year I've paid for it in four years. They just always gave it to me when I threatened to leave cause of pac 12 network. I got the max this year for $100

I simply call every year and threaten to cancel. Memory may be failing to cancel. I don't get the max pack. I did sign up for 1 year this year. Got a 200 visa, $25 off my bill for one year and Sunday ticket for free

Ok....I'm happy. I think I scored here.

I took the "nice and friendly" route. I don't like being a dick and I hate confrontation (unless I'm in WPR forum).

Anyway, I spoke to a guy, told him, "As you can see, I've been with DTV for 11 years. Doing things ala carte is too expensive, and I have to strongly consider bundling with FiOS to save nearly $100 month."

He immediately says he's going to transfer me to retention.....I say thanks.

I get a really cool guy.....I tell him the story again. Tell him that I spoke to a guy yesterday that offered me a $10-15/month credit. When I tell him this....he laughs and says, "Yeah that won't cut it."

He proceeds to say, "Well, I see you have the Ultimate package for $81/month + $10 DVR +$10 HD fee + $6 extra box + $3 regional sports fee. So your bill is about $110 per month before taxes."

I say, "You got it."

He says, "Well, I can take $40/month off your bill and give you Sunday Ticket Max for half price (normally $330, but I get it for $164), and I'll upgrade your equipment to Genie at no charge."

So, I get the upgraded equipment, $480 of regular bill credits and $165 ST Max credit.....i.e. new equipment and $645 in total bill credits.

All without a fuss. Guy was as friendly as can be.

I had started by saying...."Listen, I know people call you to strong-arm you all the time. That's not my style. I like your product and I like your service......but to spend all the money I am on phone, TV and internet is ridiculous. If you can't do anything for me, I understand.....and we can part ways after 11 years. But before I switch all my business to Verizon, I just wanted to call and see if there's anything you could offer me by way of promotions."

Now, considering how easy that was....could I have done better? Probably. But it was good enough for me.

I'm pleased.

Not everyone is satisfied watching things in 480p, or worse, in between buffering sessions.

A postscript to our situation -- the DirecTv representative called me within the 48 hours and did everything I wanted (reversed all of the unauthorized charges). She didn't offer any freebies for our inconvenience and I asked for none. For the time being, we're staying with DirecTv but that can and will change if any further unauthorized charges ever show up on our bill. Can't say we're really "happy" -- or even "satisfied" with DirecTv. But it is what it is and we aren't (and have no intentions of ever again being) under contract with them.

person x calls woman exactly when promised.

person x does literally everything woman wants.

woman's response, despite being in the wrong the whole time according to everyone but her?

"I'm not satisfied."

That's because women generally believe that the answer is "no" unless she's specifically said "yes". Automatic renewals presume that the answer is "yes" even though she didn't say "yes". That's not ok with most women.

If you'd spent as much time on the phone with DirecTv as I have in the past year and a half (close to 5 hours in 12 separate calls to fix something that wasn't my fault), you'd be less than satisfied with them too.

Nothing new here I know, but wanted to thank all for the solid suggestions. Took about 45 mins and rejecting several offers before I got ST Max for free and $25 knocked off my bill for 12 months. Did not have to re-up to a new contract either. Been with them since 2011. I had some billing issues with them initially in 2011 but with customer service like this not in a hurry to leave.

Will each previous offer just kept saying I appreciate it but still not worth sticking with your service, explain to me how the cancellation process works. The gal did a lot of typing (supposedly looking up promotions) but she was probably IM'ing with a supervisor saying I was going to bail. Finally came at me with the good offer.

Oh and Blue, before she gave me ST Max for free, she read a few disclaimers to me, one of which his the autorenewal. I had to reply saying "Yes" in agreement to the terms before she gave it to me. I am sure this is nothing new on their part.

HOLY ****! I saw your post and did a quick google.

DirecTv owners won't get the Broncos opener?

EDIT

Only those in the Indianapolis area.

Whew.

Just googled it. It's literally just the license for the NBC affiliate in Indy. Rest of the country is fine.

It's good that they told you -- they didn't tell me that though and I would have declined if they had. Situations change (like work schedules) and there's no need to be paying $330 for Sunday Ticket when you're scheduled to work on Sundays.

Question for the DTV experts: When does DTV cut the price on Sunday Ticket? I'm finally going to bite the bullet and buy the online only one. I had the Madden dear last year (100 bucks for madden and phone/computer Sunday Ticket) and that was awesome. I'm hooked.

But the price is still 200 dollars (same as week 1). I would just feel like too much of an idiot to pay for it now.

I seem to remember Sunday Ticket going on sale sometime around now in years past. Does anyone remember?

Also do you think if I called em up and asked them to prorate the online only deal that there is any chance that they would?

I had the ticket last year and i ended up not needing it for a single bronco game. Then again, i didnt pay a dime for it and the red zone channel was great. This year i got the ticket again for free and a big discount on the max package. So far i would have missed two games. Honestly, even if you end up not using it at all its great to have that insurance policy in hand. Games that i watch on my couch and having the ability to record and watch later without the commercials far outweighs the bar experience for me. My girlfriend gets all traditional on me and spends the day in the kitchen making me stuff to eat. Its wonderful. But back to sunday ticket.. I would pay 100 dollars easy to ensure that i wont miss a game or have to fight for elbow room at a local watering hole with a bunch of mouth breathers. And then there are all the games that you get to catch at the end of the season that have huge playoff implications. And gambling! You can choose your own adventure there. Sunday ticket is great and thats really all there is to it.
