Default Can't Stop Winning: Ford Plans to Lay Off 24K Due to Tarriffs

Jim Hackett, Ford’s CEO, is working to engineer a $25.5 billion restructuring of the automaker, hoping to cut costs and remain competitive, the Wall Street Journal reports. But auto sales are down, and one reason is the trade tariffs that Trump has imposed on metals and other goods. According to Bloomberg, Hackett has said they have already cost the company $1 billion in profit and could do “more damage” if the disputes aren’t resolved quickly.

Ford, the No. 2 U.S. automaker by sales, is making aggressive job cuts as part of that reorganization, NBC News reported. While the company hasn’t said how many jobs will be lost, a report from Morgan Stanley estimates “a global headcount reduction of approximately 12 percent,” or 24,000 of Ford’s 202,000 workers worldwide.”

Just saw posts from a bunch of people in Trump country here in Missouri who are PISSED.

Good times.

Ford was going to be laying off thousands anyways.. the previously announced they willing stop producing all cars except the mustang and trucks.

https://techcrunch.com/2018/04/25/fo...-focus-active/

I get it it’s always nice to make a political point but it’s disingenuous and deceiving to link their restructuring to tariffs. They just made ****ty cars and could not compete outside of the stang.

Ford isn’t doing as well as GM or Chrysler this year, but their overall sales are still up. Car sales are generally down across all companies. Increased domestic sales of trucks, SUVs, and crossovers are more than making up for it.

Listen I get it you don't like trump and in fact most people would agree. But you didn't read my post nor the link I embedded.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/money...tt/1209706002/

Ford has been a disaster looming for years now and it has little to do with tariffs or trump. It's irresponsible to dump a log on the anti-tariff fire without understanding that the executives from ford are running the company into the ground. They announce they would be cutting all autos except the Mustang, CUVs, and trucks earlier this year. This means significant layoffs.

In the attached link shows some of the comments:

ord Motor employees are warily awaiting details of CEO Jim Hackett’s promised “fitness” plan and the serious possibility of significant job losses as the company faces pressure to improve its operations.

The company has warned of $11 billion in restructuring costs over three to five years, which could mean thousands of worker buyouts, according to analysts.

If it was just Ford, then your argument might have some validity, but we all know better, don't we?
