You're ****ing nuts. This has been a great World Cup so far.

This is the first World Cup through 32 matches (entering today) that had no 0-0 matches. 32 matches is the halfway mark of the 64-match event. The previous record was 26 0-0 matches through the 32-match threshold. Now that streak has been extended to 34 matches with the scoring that has occurred in Egypt-Saudi Arabia and Uruguay-Russia.

Spain-Portugal and Germany-Sweden are two iconic matches that will be remembered for ages.

So you have to win your group, is that how they're running it?

Only one team gets eliminated from each group. The knockout round will begin with 32 instead of 16.

1-1 games can be boring too.

And remember for ages? lol. Right. No one remembers group stage matches unless they have huge meaning. Germany pulling that win off was a great game, but in 4-8 years, no one will remember it.

That's true and a 0-0 match with constant shots on goal can be exciting.

My impression this World Cup has provided plenty of action. Case in point, Belgium beat Tunsia 5-2 Saturday, which was the third best match that day and there was seven goals scored. There really hasn't been too many dog matches.

That match had plenty of meaning. Germany was the defending champ. They were in danger of not advancing to knockout and they pulled out a miracle in the final minute while being a man down.

Regardless of stage, that match has one of the top 10-20 endings ever.

I get it. But still no one will remember it.

I will say the games this weekend were far more entertaining than what we had seen the previous week. I really enjoyed Japan and Senegal match.

Yeah right. That's like saying nobody will remember the Music City Miracle or Steve Young's last second TD pass to Terrell Owens because they were in Wild Card games.

It was a good set of matches. I felt sorry for Panama, but the whole time I could only hear Van Halen in my mind.

Man, that's getting kinda silly isn't it?

Essentially like having every team in the tournament this year qualify for the knockout round.

I think you're confusing remembering games, vs instant classics that will go down in history.

The US game vs Algeria with Landon Donovans late winner is much more memorable than some of these games you think are going to be shown in World Cup highlight reels for years to come.

Spain and Portugal was a great game. Ronaldo proving once again how much better he is than Messi was awesome.

That's your best example? US vs. Algeria only matters here. It's not a memorable match throughout the soccer universe. There's been a bunch of matches like that. If that's your best example, I think I'm going to walk away from this thread because I'm laughing my ass off.

That pass to TO should have never happened because Jerry Rice fumbled the ball two plays prior and GB recovered it. That's what I remember.

Today's game was a nice little sneak peek of how Russia will do in the knockout round when they have to face a team ranked higher than 45...

I know but on the heels of the doping report it just is great to see them get knocked around like crazy in that match

Ah, yes. That'd be a good idea. It was tough being in the presence of the arbiter of greatest football matches ever played.

Spain losing always makes me smile. Hold on to this Morocco.

1-1...it was fun while it lasted.

I'm glad to see someone other than Ronaldo wants to score for Portugal in this WC. Fantastic outside the boot by Quresma.

Thirty-six matches played and no 0-0 matches. The record extends.

But this an "underwhelming" pool play according to you.

Germany is a worldwide soccer brand. Fans everywhere that aren't even German root for them, but nobody is going to remember Tony Kroos' goal. You're so enlightened.

It's almost like this is a subjective topic, and others have different opinions than you as to what makes one match to another exciting or memorable past this WC. I already said Germany - Sweden was a great game. What are you even arguing?

It's been somewhat underwhelming, and no matter how many games ended with both teams scoring, that doesn't change. Sorry.

What would make the World Cup great at this point in your eyes?

Unless you have biases against certain teams, I don't understand your perspective. Watching it as a neutral observer and just wanting to see quality play, it's as fun as it gets to me.

Do you even know World Cup history? Do you remember pool play in 1982? 1990?
