Oh wow...aside from the US I tend to pull for Netherlands and Germany. Netherlands is my second choice because they are so damn sexy at soccer. Beautiful country playing a beautiful game out there.

Yeah completely different perspective after seeing the 2nd half. Spain dominated the first 35 minute and then got ran over by a train that is Robben and Van Persie.

I love the Netherlands also. One of my favorite countries to visit. My order is this: US, UK, Netherlands and that game against the Spanish was amazing. I enjoyed the revenge game. Also makes me think, hmm, perhaps Denver can have it's revenge game too.

Good start for CONCACAF: Mexico very convincing over Cameroon (refs screwed them out of a comfortable 3-0 win) and Costa Rica kind of pulled a Netherlands, coming from 0-1 down against a heavy favorite to completely kick Uruguay's ass in the second half.

I picked Uruguay and England to advance from Group D and they start 0-2.

Drogba makes a huge difference in the way Japan defends, and the Ivory Coast open the flood gates, wow.

I watched the Costa Rica Uruguay game and the England Italy game. The Europeans looked so much crisper in all phases of the game.

Agreed. When Drogba came in the game it changed the whole feel of the game. Like ronaldo or lebron. I always found it amazing how some players are so talented that they make the best players in the world look like amatures

Yeah but England and Italy are much better than Costa Rica and Uruguay without Suarez.

Also Italy and especially England looked absolutely gassed at the end. Did you see rooneys corner that landed 15 yards behind the goal? Before the tournament I questioned how the euro teams woukd deal with the South American climate and if the last twenty min of that match was any indication, this bears watching.

Agreed. This could actually be a factor for the US against Germany and Portugal. I think it is probably the biggest reason a European team has never won the cup in South or Central America.

The England - Italy game was played in a tropical climate in the amazon jungle, the playoff games will be played in a much more subtropical coastal climate for the most part (except the games in Brazilia). If they make it to the knockout stage and get to pay in Sao Paulo and Rio they will be fine, the weather there especially during their winter is not much different from Italy or France or Spain.

I think the USMNT plays Germany in the jungle. Well either Germany or Portugal. I hope it gives us a semi slight advantage as an equalizer

**** everything about the Swiss. That's twice now they've let a ball roll around in the box while they begged for a foul.

The Swiss deserved that one. Can't believe the Ecuadoran striker didn't shoot on the previous breakaway. Had to try and get fancy. Just shoot the ball!

Why didn't they stop play after the ref called a foul.
