Quintana is not the type of pitcher I would trade a lucrative prospect haul for.

An age 28 hurler that averages 7.8 strikeouts per nine innings and carries an 8 percent swinging-strike rate isn't an arm I would bet on to sustain success looking two-three years down the road.

It pains me to write that because Quintana had been so underappreciated until his 2016 season. He does make $24.85 million through 2019 so that's the real attraction to acquiring him, but a team must have conviction that his skill set is going to stand the test of time.

Also, I think David Robertson is a mediocre relief pitcher. The Sox should be shopping Nate Jones for a return, he's the real attraction that could fetch value.

Well, he may not be "elite" but he's certainly better than "mediocre".

He's above average and he can mentally handle big markets so that's a plus.
The Yankees like him enough to falsely attempt to re-sign him years ago so that they could drive up the price for other teams and do him a solid.

Robertson has the track record and stuff to be above-average.

But last year he was a middle of the road reliever as he lost command, averaging 4.6 walks per nine innings and posting a 2.3 K/BB.

But I would rather give up more for Jones, because 1. he's better and 2. he's not owed $25 million through 2018.

However, I do think Robertson can bounce back as his velocity held up and he had some bad luck with batted balls in play.

"And the award for most obvious news ever goes to......Joe Girardi, announcing Greg Bird as Yankees 1B."

When the Yankees want a guy to win the competition, they rig it so he cannot fail.

I think Bird earned it without the Yankees rigging it.

They brought in competition to challenge Bird and the youngster showed that his surgically repaired shoulder wasn't hindering the flashes of power he showed in 2015. Grapefruit League numbers don't mean ****, but they did for Bird after he struggled in the Arizona Fall League. He showed he can still put lift on the ball and potentially fill the job description of a first baseman, which is to slug first and foremost.

Sorry to hear that. He took the Cubs on a pretty good run in the mid '80s - the Sandberg/Dawson teams.

RIP

The United States plays Puerto Rico tonight in The World Baseball Classic Championship Game.

We've never won the WBC Championship Game, so this will be fun to watch.

Jim Leyland is the manager of Team U.S.A....good to see him back in the dugout coaching.

His best attribute as a manager is motivating and he has the team playing inspired baseball.

You're right. Leyland is the right guy to handle these personalities, telling guys like Paul Goldschmidt and Daniel Murphy they have to ride the pine.

Luke Gregerson, who is not even the closer in Houston, sounded like he would run through a wall for Leyland after the skipper informed him that he had all the confidence in him to pitch the ninth inning for the USA.

Yes, Green built those Cubs from the front office. He was the guy responsible plucking Ryne Sandberg from the Phillies system for Ivan DeJesus.

I'm a big Jimmy Leyland fan. He grew up in Perrysburg, Ohio....about 10 minutes from where I grew up/live now. He's still got a lot family in town and visits often.

Plus, he was obviously the manager of my Tigers....I really wanted to see him win a World Series in Detroit. Those players loved playing for him.

Good development since Puerto Rico's Seth Lugo, one of many fine young arms on the Mets, was looking sharp with his tight-spin slider.

USA with a 7-0 lead in the 7th inning.

I though Puerto Rico would probably edge the United States in a close game....but Jim Leyland had Team USA primed for this game

Bah....Marcus Stroman lost his no-hit bid in the bottom of the 7th inning.

Stroman deserved every bit of that standing ovation.

USA dominates Puerto Rico 8-0 to win the 2017 World Baseball Classic Championship.

That's the first WBC Championship for the United States.

He won it, don't get me wrong. But he was always going to win it. Even if he hit .137.

Mariners have so many AAAA players over the years. Rake it up in AAA, but then can't get it done in MLB. Hopefully Vogelbach gets it together and makes an impact in Seattle. I bet he's there by June, if not earlier. I'm really excited about Haniger though. He has been tearing it up in ST this year, and was awesome last year in AAA. Hope its not just a flash in the pan.
