Erik Johnson just kills me sometimes. Such a sloppy puck handler.

Nathan MacKinnon is like Hockey's John Stockton.

I tell you guys, you gotta think Roy went to them after last game and challenged them, and was like "why do you guys fall asleep in the second period? Can we make a statement in the second period for once?"

Gabe was all "Ja!"

He played very well tonight and saved our bacon numerous times.

Letang was the key goat. He needs to have his ice time cut to 10 mins until he can grow a brain. Once he demonstrates he can magically become a different player overnight, he can get more minutes.

Landeskog: Calder winner
MacKinnon: lock for the Calder
Duchene: third in Calder voting (top offensive vote getter, losing to a goalie and d-man)
Stastny: second in Calder voting (because he was up against Evgeni ****ing Malkin)

All that to say, the Avs have been spoiled in terms of drafting offensive talent and having it pay off immediatly. Though only now leading to playoff success.

Screwy last couple minutes, but Stastny hits an empty net on second try. Halfway there!

Nate didn't get the assist on the empty netter? That was all him on the play. 3 pts, should have been 4.

He got the assist. He's now tied for the NHL record more most points by a rookie in his first two games.

Also, more of a team effort, but equally filthy.

Varlamov was amazing. Seems that Roy may be one of those rare superstars who can teach some.

MacKinnon with 7 points in two games.

The two players he shares the record with were 21 and 27 years old when they did it.

There is something special about what MacKinnon is doing here. I went out of the way to watch the Memorial Cup last year thinking I was watching Seth Jones. MacKinnon took it to a new level in those games, and he's doing it now, in the playoffs. He just has it... that ability to kick it up a few notches when the stakes are highest. I mean he shouldn't be able to do this in the NHL Playoffs at age 18. Think of how amazing Pavel Datsyuk is. You remember how long it took him to turn into a playoff performer? (He was 10 years older than MacKinnon before he figured it out)

The Avs have cemented themselves as the #2 team in this town for a long time. The bar already looks so high after it looked so low just a year ago. But they've done it the right way... the stars they drafted, aside from Duchene, weren't obvious choices. Landeskog was ranked #4 on some lists. Of course everyone thought the Avs were going to draft Seth Jones. O'Reilly and Stastny were 2nd round picks.

If Seimens, Elliot, and Bigras can develop into NHL ready defensmen in the next 2-3 years, look out...

Elliot is the only one that worries me. Bigras damn near made the team this past season. He hasn't lit the world on fire with his junior team but he is very good.
Siemens is going to be a very nice defense first guy. Could potentially be a shut down type.
