Pat Bowlen
Default Holliday Signs!

Sorry, that subject line is almost unfair.

They locked him up through his last two years of arbitration. 2 years, $23 million. I wish Scott Boras would find Jesus and go to Africa.

Big deal for Rockies' Holliday

It's not the seven-year contract, or longer, he was seeking, but Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday has a new deal with the team.

Holliday and the Rockies have agreed to a two-year contract worth $23 million that will keep the homegrown player in Denver through the 2009 season. After the '09 season, he'll be eligible for free agency.

He agreed to a guaranteed contract that will pay him $9.5 million in 2008 and $13.5 million in 2009. That's a raise from the $4.4 million Holliday was paid in 2007, when he finished second to Philadelphia's Jimmy Rollins in voting for the National League MVP Award after batting .340 with with 36 home runs, 137 RBI and 120 runs.

The Rockies also have reached agreement with outfielder Willy Taveras on a non-guaranteed contract for 2008 worth $1.975 million. Taveras, who was paid $402,000 in 2007, can earn another $150,000 in bonuses for reaching three levels of plate appearances ($50,000 each for 500, 550 and 600).
