In Von's defense, he ran a cumulative 4 miles in wind sprints Monday night. Certain types of QB's negate the effectiveness of a ferocious pass rusher - how effective was Derrick Thomas against Elway? And now that the NFL is protecting QB's, Von is further neutered as he can no longer break them in half 10 seconds after the ball is released - like he did to Alex Smith.

What? No defender gave Elway more problems than Thomas. He sacked him 26 times

“No defender harassed Elway in his career more than Thomas. He sacked Elway 26 times, more than any quarterback in his career. Elway said he understands the Thomas comparison, but he said Miller has a lot to do to live up to Thomas. “It'd be great if he did,”

Bench Von may be the worst take I have ever seen on the OM. And we have posters like the chef and Wolf regularly making threads, so that's a special kind of stupid.

Dumervil to MLB still might be the worst take in the history of the Mane. But this is a contender.

OK, OK, I was pretty young and I was using the Derrick Thomas meltdown with Shannon Sharp on MNF as a reference - pretty sure no sacks that night. Maybe DT was a lot better than Von?

I’m always amused at the way people never understand that even the best pass rushers don’t generate sacks and pressures constantly.

Nah. Elway’s OL was trash most of his career.

Op take is idiotic however I will say von is the best player on our team. He is supposed to be one of the best in the league on defense and he’s paid as such. He needs to make a play on Monday to change the game. It was set up for him perfectly. Up 10 in 4th. We expect great qbs to lead game winning drives. We should expect great edge rushers to make a play in primetime.

Miller has still earned a 7.5 pass-rush productivity so far this season, but the figure pales in comparison to what he’s capable of. Rookie Bradley Chubb leads the team in pass-rush productivity at 7.8, ranking ninth among the league’s qualifiers at the position.

I never thought I'd never see the day when Albert Einstein was proved wrong. Insanity is not doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Insanity is benching Von Miller.

Its the suggestion that we should bench him that has people screaming to send this thread to the butt. Saying he's having an off year or not as his best is one thing, saying he was never any good and should be on the bench is something else entirely...

......aaaand i just realised i helped propogate a thread that should by now be dead...sorry all....

Von is not the best defensive player in the league and never has been. His entire career here has followed the script of disappearing for 4 games at a time... having a break out game or piling up garbage stats in random game... and disappears again. Great players do it week in and out. Von has NEVER been that guy.

These last two weeks were pathetic. Constantly sitting on the sideline looking like he is dying and no effort on his pash rushes in the game. He had one on one match ups the entire game against the Chiefs and was only chipped a couple times... and he did nothing. I know he was probably playing contain a bunch... but still no excuse not to make plays... and why the hell is our "best" player being relegated to contain every play?

This thread shouldn't be in the butt. I dont think Denver should bench Von but they need to explore the idea of trading him for a franchise QB. If Seattle rumors about possibly trading Wilson are true, Denver should find a 3 way trade to make it happen.
