Man, I am enjoying the hell out of these games. Japan - Sengal was great to watch. Yesterday's match between Iran and Portugal ended up being a thriller to the end, even if the referee was questionable.

Unless you have biases against certain teams, I don't understand your perspective. Watching it as a neutral observer and just wanting to see quality play, it's as fun as it gets to me.

Do you even know World Cup history? Do you remember pool play in 1982? 1990?
The knockout stages will be fun, as usual. Also, when games become ever more meaningful during match day 3 they become more eventful as a whole.

This all started because I said overall the games thus far weren't as entertaining as I remember games being in past world cups. Just my opinion and you said I was ****ing nuts, so whatever.

That doesn't mean there haven't been good games up to this point. Of course there have. And I wasn't even born in '82, so no, not from personal recollection do I remember that. But what in the actual **** does that even matter to this WC?

Yup, I even said that game was really fun to watch.

Messi finally gets on the board. Argentina really controlled that first half.

Nigeria ties it up. Argentina is the only top team I really want to see knocked out.

I think it's much more interesting with Messi than without.

It was awful actually. Not only did Argentina win, but they messed up my order at Starbucks this morning. I mean, how hard is it to make a venti iced caramel macchiato?!

Everyone in my neighborhood was rooting hard for Argentina. It was pretty funny to hear all the kids shouting "goaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal" and hollering whenever they did something good.

It's the first time ever that Germany has been knocked out in pool play.

Ok, ok...today's games were fun. The last matchday games are always full of drama.

I was torn at the end. Do I want Mexico to get knocked out, or Germany? As a USA fan, always want to see Mexico fall apart, but they have been far more entertaining to watch this WC than Germany. They didn't look good against Sweden tho.

That was a crazy few minutes. Just like Mexico to get their ass beat and still go through.

Germany hits a new Lw today...

You have no idea how quiet the streets are in Berlin right now. Mann was fr nen verdammten scheisssssssss heute. They played like they were asleep. Werner SUCKS. The amount of times he hit the ball into a defender and gave it away, killing a promising attack. Goodbye Lw!

With the exception of a few minutes, they played like they were asleep all 3 games.

There were external factors dictating the way Germany played I think, though I didn't watch the game.
I heard Germany was subbing in offensive guys leaving their defense weak since they had to score enough to get a top 2 spot in the group. Germany could have played for a draw since S. Korea was playing a heavy defensive game, but they had to win and score some points so it opened up the counter.

Interesting question...because if they draw they will have the same number of goals field and goals allowed...it might come down to this..."greater number of points obtained in the fair play conduct of the teams based on yellow and red cards received in all group matches"

First step: Pursuant to the criteria listed in art. 32 (5) lit. a) to c) of the Competition Regulations.

greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
goal difference in all group matches;
greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.
Second step: If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the first step (see example in Table 1), their ranking will be determined by applying to the group matches between the teams concerned the criteria listed in art. 32 (5) lit. d) to h) in the order of their listing.

greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned;
goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned;
greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned;
greater number of points obtained in the fair play conduct of the teams based on yellow and red cards received in all group matches;
drawing of lots by the FIFA.
