Default 606/55

For much of the season until lately, the Chiefs were on track to threaten two all-time NFL records set by the great 2013 Broncos offense...606 season points scored and 55 TD passes by Peyton Manning.

Kansas City now stands at 499 points thru 14 games. No way the Chiefs score 107 in their final two games on the schedule to get to 606, especially with the next one at Seattle.

Mahomes has 45 TD passes after last night's game, needing 10 more to tie Manning. I could see Mahomes possibly with 2 or 3 TD passes at Seattle, but then he'd have to get 7 or 8 more in a late December game at Arrowhead vs. Raiders to reach Manning.

The Broncos 2013 records will likely be broken in the new era of offensive football, but not this year.

here's the thing, patty maho and uncle andy aint looking to break any records, they are focused on winning.
Lots of occasions where the chiefs could have elected to attempt a pass for the TD and passing record pursuit, but they dont have such trivialities on their radar.

Yeah! The Chiefs are so focused on winning, they forgot to cover the receiver on the 2 point conversion.

Those are some records I don't even care about. That wasn't even the best offense in Bronco history. That title belongs to the 1998 team.

again, one of those rare occasions when I am compelled to agree with you,
PFMs best ever season performance was alot like a ginger baker drum solo,
if baker was running the show.
That one man stage performance got bit in the arse at the SB.

excellent!
actually, I think the cheifs crowd was so loud, trying to mess with the O that the defenders couldnot hear one another when one of them tried to set up an inside out VS the man coverage that got lost on the (noise) shuffle.

Ya I'm a huge TD/Elway fan but I don't think the 1998 O was better then 2013 O of Denver. They broke about ever record there was.

If all you think matters is passing yards and points when it comes to offense, you don't really understand football. A more balanced attack with an unstoppable running game is just better in terms of winning games, because it controls the ball and basically plays defense as well. Plus, come on. An offense that produces 8 points in the Super Bowl isn't the greatest offense ever. Period.

The 2013 offense got punched in the face and folded when it faced a tough defense. The 97/98 offenses could grind it out in the running game anytime they faced a ferocious defense. I'd take either the 97 or 98 offense over 2013 any day.

What you could say is the 2013 O was based around PFM. He was responsible for that O.

The 97/98 O were not predicated Elway as we know it was based around TD but if that sputtered for a moment there were players at all positions who could pick up the slack.

And, to be clear, that running game pretty much never sputtered, even in the playoffs. In my opinion for an offense to truly be considered the best ever it better have won a freaking title.

Oh yea totally agree. It was the best Denver O. Most well rounded and balanced. HOF all over the place.

Points don't matter when it comes to offense? That's the only offensive stat that matters. The game is decided by who has more points. The end.

First of all, that's a really stupid take. A dominant running game may score fewer points, but it also controls the clock and essentially is a second defense. But even by your stupid standard, the 1998 offense scored 34 points in their Super Bowl while the 2013 offense scored 8 in theirs. The 1998 offense also averaged 31.7 ppg in the playoffs versus the 2013 offense's measly 19.3 ppg. Simply comparing regular season point totals between the two is a joke.

The 98 Broncos weren’t even the highest scoring team in 1998.

The 1998 team doesn't get the respect it deserves.

Wha?

Smith had 86 and McCaffrey had 64 in 1998. In 1997, Shannon had 72 and Smith 70.
