On the heels of signing 42-year-old knuckleballer R.A. Dickey, the Braves have now reached agreement on a contract with Bartolo Colon, sources confirmed to ESPN. The one-year deal is for $12.5 million, a source told ESPN's Jim Bowden, and the agreement was first reported by MLB.com.

Good to see Bartolo Colon playing another year....baseball is more entertaining with him playing.

Colon is 43 years old, but the old man can still pitch.

He was 15-8 with a 3.43 ERA.

As long as he isn't taking performance drugs, he has been really good. He was a Cy Young winner in 2006 with the Angels and they didn't resign him later when his contract was up. Talk about some stability for a long time.

Braves going old person route seems surprising as they are building for the future.

It's at the juncture where the Braves want to expose the young guys to successful vets and have them teach the young guys about more than just losing.

It's part of the reason why the Braves are rumored to want to trade for McCann, though they do not wish to part with any useful pieces in return.

Lourdes Gurriel and Kendrys Morales sign with the Blue Jays.
I wanted Gurriel, the Yankees supposedly had interest in Morales.

For the second straight year, at least one player will accept a qualifying offer.

I can only imagine what Ivan Nova will command now in a thin pitching market.

There's also a good chance the Phillies trade him at midseason to a contender, which would make him ineligible for a qualifying offer next year. He wouldn't have gotten $17.2 million AAV on a long-term deal so it is a shrewd move indeed.

See, that would be true with most teams...but it's the Phillies. They never want to trade unless they are raping the other team.

Anybody know anything about these guys other than this?

Abreu, 21, was 3-8 with a 3.72 ERA in 101 2/3 innings pitched in the Astros' minor league system. He finished the year at Lancaster, Houston's high A team in the California League. Guzman, 20, was 3-4 with a 4.05 ERA in 40 innings with two clubs in the Astros' system. He finished the season at Greenville, Houston's rookie league team in the Appalachian League.

Abreu is the prize of the deal.

Here's an excerpt from the 2016 John Sickels' Prospect Book

"SLEEPER ALERT!! Albert Abreu was signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2003 for $185,000. This was a nice budget acquisition: he threw 88-90 when he signed but is up to 93-97 now, sometimes a little higher. He has a solid-average curveball that can improve further; he has a fair changeup and another pitch that looks like a cutter or slider in development. Command and control need work, as you'd expect given his age, but there's a chance for him to develop into a mid-rotation starter (maybe more) if he adds polish. Abreu could very well follow in the steps of Michael Feliz, Francis Martes, and David Paulino, emerging as a top prospect in 2016. Grade C+"

The Astros stay aggressive with their acquisitions.

Glad he won it over Mookie. Well deserved for Trout.

The Yankees have gone from liking 6-4+ 205+ pitchers from southern cal to loving 5-11+ 180+ with major velocity and pitchability.

I like it.

Jorge Guzman sounds intriguing too.

As great as Trout is...I sincerely hope the rumors that the Yankees are thinking about throwing a huge prospect package at the Angels for him is false.
I don't think the Angels would trade Trout but the Yankees have too many holes to go star chasing.

Bah. They really need to re-name the award if they're not truly going to measure true "value".

Sox don't make the playoffs without Mookie. It's not even debatable.

Angels are a bottom feeder with or without Trout.
