Hopefully we get something out of this guy.
I as a Red Sox fan feel we've got shafted on this deal.
We could've paid Lester to stay, but then again, we need some pitching, Clay Bucholtz is a hit or miss every year, he's got problems staying healthy.
Pocello, meh. Eduardo Rodriguez? is the other pitcher, and Wade Miles complete our rotation.
I don't know what happened to Kelly. Do we still have him?

The Dodgers letting him go with no one to replace him nor having a stable rotation makes no ****ing sense. They almost literally have Kershaw and ****.

Zack Greinke got a ridiculous contract at age 32 with record AAV, but the Dodgers can't really make that overmarket value excuse with their resources and TV deal.

We'll see if LA enters the Cueto sweepstakes, whose value just went through the roof following the David Price, Greinke and Jordan Zimmermann deals.

You're right though, it's shaky behind Kershaw:
Brett Anderson: Bad track record of health despite making it through 2015 unscathed
Alex Wood: Velocity dipped and strikeout rate plummeted during down year
Hyun-jin Ryu: Coming off shoulder surgery
Brandon McCarthy: Coming off Tommy John

Long-term, it looks promising with the summer arrivals of Julio Urias and Jose DeLeon, who both project as No. 2 starters. Urias will be the first 19 year old pitcher to debut since Felix Hernandez in 2005.

Greinke will make even more because he won't have to pay as much BS California taxes.

If the Dodgers sign Johnny Cueto the blow of losing Grienke won't be so bad. To me it's bad business giving a pitcher Grienke that contract. I can see him being dominant for about half of that contract though, so he will be a pain in the Dodgers ass for awhile.

Cueto is 3 years younger than Grienke as well. That is about the best they can do at this time.

That's fine as well, as long as they go get a big bat. I read that Maeda prefers the Dodgers. LA can possibly trade Wood (too many lefties no away ) for some relief help. Maeda is said to have 3-4 potential in the MLB. Let Anderson and The rest fight for the 5th spot this year.

I have to admit that I totally do not get this. I don't get it from Greinke's perspective, and I don't really get it from the D-Bags' perspective. (D-Backs! I meant to say D-Backs!) Why devote that much money to a guy that might have the potential to get you to second or third in the division? It's not as if they're sitting there on the cusp. I could even see it if it's a guy like Bryce Harper - a guy who can affect the game every night.

It's contracts like these that make me feel okay with the Rockies approach to free agency. (Calling it an approach might actually be generous. If sitting on your hands while burying your head in the sand is an approach, then the Rockies have an approach.) The last thing we need is for them to have another reason to say, "See, that one time, we took a shot. And look how that turned out! From now on, if they can't be signed to a minor league contract, then we're not interested!"

Mike Hampton and Denny Neagle are the gifts that keep on giving, and giving, and giving!

They're not on the cusp, but the Diamondbacks are interesting because they achieved 79 wins despite having one of the worst pitching staffs on paper to start the season.

Arizona scored the second-most runs in the NL backed by a trio of hitters that includes Paul Goldschmidt, AJ Pollock and David Peralta (sixth in slugging, eight in OBP in NL in 2015!). These three hitters are all age 28 so the D-Backs need to take advantage of their prime right now.

Behind Greinke, they have Patrick Corbin and Robbie Ray to lean upon in middle-rotation roles, and the club's No. 2-4 prospects -- Aaron Blair, Braden Shipley, Archie Bradley -- are all starting pitchers and knocking on the door.

It's conceivable the D-Backs can win 85-87 games this year and push for a postseason berth.

Seems as if a lot of teams are leary of Cueto's elbow and do not want to spend on him.
It makes too much damn sense to sign Cueto for the Yankees but Hal will not ok the payroll increase without dropping a ton of contracts off the books.

The Dodgers need more pitching help than the Yankees and that is saying something because we have a alcoholic with a bone on bone condition former ace, a ticking time bomb of a elbow issue with Tanaka, a recovering Nova, a recovering Eovaldi and a never sure what injury he will have Pineda.

Are you forgetting that Ryu is coming back? Kershaw, Ryu, Wood, and Anderson are not that bad. Now they added Iwakuma. Plus they have a ton of prospects in waiting.

It's asking a lot to depend on Anderson. It's similar to banking on McCarthy to stay healthy.
Even with a flush farm system, injuries happen and you can never have enough pitching.
Look at the Nationals last year.

I don't like giving up a draft pick to sign Iwakuma. They also may move Puig or prospects to Cleveland for Carrasco? I know they tried to get Carrasco last year.

There is a lot of ways and flexibility for the Dodgers to shore up their rotation. They were pretty active last offseason but Friedman and co. were very patient.

They did just get the 13th pick for Grank. For some reason they have a hard on for Chapman. That may cost them DeLeon from the rumors I have seen.

Trading Puig means you need to probably get Heyward or Cespedes one would think!?!? The Indians also like Wood so maybe there is something else LA can do there.

The Dodgers won't get the 13th pick.

The comp picks are rewarded at the conclusion of the first round. The good news is that once Howie Kendrick signs elsewhere, the Dodgers will get two comp picks between the first and second rounds.

Fans when they don't see the players perspective forget that sports is a business. Why wouldn't Greinke take the extra money and not worry about being away from his family for spring training.
