Go M's! Felix is getting in to a groove. 5K's so far and 9 straight outs.

Outside the 8 pitch battle loss to Trout, he has been absolutely on fire. That change up of his is a thing of beauty.

Nevermind. Three team trade.
Yeah, Jackson has a lot of potential, but he really sucked when we traded for him. A lot of our success hinges on his ability to put up a good average and OBP. I don't expect him to be around long if he can't do that.

Nice work getting that 6-4-3 after two were on with no outs. Go M's!

Nice to see the Rockies win today and exhibit the type of offense everybody expects that line-up to produce.
But enough of the Rockies. My Red Sox with a new revamped offense belted 5 homeruns today and Clay Buchholz struckout 9 in 7 innings allowing 3 hits and zero runs for the victory over the Phillies' ace Cole Hamels on the road.
Not too shabby!!!

The Tigers shutout the Twins 4-0 in their season opener.

David Price pitched 8 2/3 innings of shutout ball.

Yoenis Cespedes doubled, tripled and scored twice in his Tiger debut.

J.D. Martinez and Alex Avila both did some yard work for the Tigers.

Boston could win the WS with an ace.

Porcello, Masterson, Kelly, Bucholtz, Miley are a bunch of 2-4 types.

I can understand keeping them but Boston has so much depth it just seems like an easy move to make, shrugs.

Sure.........they could. But Hamels isn't that guy. AL and East in particular would wreck that guy IMO. I want no part of him at the price they're seeking.

If healthy for a full season, or even close to it, Buchholz can be that guy. And I really think Porcello could be that guy by the end of the year with the Sox coaching. Waaaaaaay to early to pull the trigger on such a move until they know exactly what they have in this staff.

We will be fine.
Sucks not having Lester, and while we may not have a stellar pitching rotation, we could still surprise people with what we have.
They're not bad, Porcello is still young with a lot of talent, Buchholtz just need to stay healthy and Kelly is a pretty solid pitcher, we will see between Miley and Masterson who used to play for us.
As long as Buchholtz, Kelly and Porcello stay healthy and consistent, we will be just fine.
Buchholtz appears to be recovered physically enough to be named the season opener pitcher. He could have a big year as a #1.

We might still pursue a number 1 pitcher. Let's wait and see how the dice turn up...

It's hard to believe that Porcello is only 26 years old and won't turn 27 until after the season is done.

The Tigers put him in the rotation when he was 20 years old in 2009 and he's been in the rotation ever since.

It looked like he might have settled in as a reliable, yet average career starter, up until last season when he elevated his game and was steady all season, winning 15 games with 3 shutouts and an ERA of 3.43.

He was more consistent last season and managed to curb the one bad inning every start that seemed to plague him in previous seasons.

Porcello is definitely a groundball pitcher, so he'll look even better in Boston if their infield plays solid/good defense.

Detroit's infield defense was below average during Porcello's tenure in Detroit.

Yup!
Porcello is still very young.
Baseball players mature late, they get better with age...
He has tremendous potential.

I am worried Bogarts is going to average/below average fielding SS, so we will see if Porcello gets any help. For some reason the FO decided to load up on ground ball pitchers this year.

With the exception of Hamels or Cueto if Cincy puts him on the market, there arent too many #1's out there.

Just hard to win a WS without a true ace in those 2-1/1-0 type games.

Well, Detroit was loaded with tremendous pitching the last 3 years, Verlander, Scherzer, Sanchez, Porcello, Fister, etc... and they couldn't win the WS.
Same thing with the Dodgers.
I still agree with you in having an ace to win the WS, no doubt, but it can be done...
