I'm not really sure what to make of the moves for SEA. It looks like the M's have one of the best defensive outfields in all of baseball after their moves this off-season, but I'm not sure how good this new pitcher from Baltimore is in comparison to Karns.

They have added a lot of speed and guys who can get on base. Hopefully it works out.

From what it looks like, Both pitchers had down years last year. Gallardo actually looked pretty solid. Hopefully playing in Sea instead of Baltimore makes a big difference for him and last year was the anomaly instead of the trend. I didn't have a lot of confidence in Karns anyway. I loved Seth Smith and his contributions (watched him hit a grand slam in Safeco last year) but Dyson fits better what the M's are trying to do under Dipoto.

Looks like we are still talking with Cashman. Both sides are playing coy until the final couple weeks before ST.

As I said before, it's obvious how this deal gets done in a win-win way. CWS makes a major concession on the very top of NYY system (no Torres or Frazier) and in exchange guts the rest of the system (Mateo, Rutherford, Sheffield) plus two other quality non Top 100 prospects in addition to the 3 Top 100 guys (Fowler plus one more).

Everyone can then say they "won."

Nah, I think he's posturing. Rosenthal reported the sides are still talking but the Yankees offers are behind PIT and HOU.

I think it will get serious right before spring training.

A deal is there to be done giving Cashman al the cover he needs. A deal centered around Mateo, Rutherford and Sheffield would give CWS the quantity if quality prospects we want and NY could say they got Quintana without giving up either Torres or Frazier. It makes too much sense, IMO

NYY are gonna have to be reasonably decent in 2017 to stem some of their TV network issues etc. Yes they are still building but Cashman could be in trouble if they finish 3rd or 4th in the division.

Not even, he has the GM job until he gets tired of working for the Steinbrenners.

The Twins demands makes no sense. It's a byproduct of the earlier massive trades.
The Dodgers just need to walk away and let the Twins crawl back to the table.

No one else will offer the prospects close to what the Dodgers will. The Twins system has been bad over the past few year at developing.

I wonder how much of his Angels run was diluted by Moreno, he seems far better in his short time with the Mariners.

I too like what DiPoto is doing to make the Mariners competitive in the short term. With older vets like Nelson Cruz, Robinson Cano and Felix Hernandez, I don't blame him for going for it, especially since the M's have the longest postseason drought in MLB (2001).

With his sheer volume of trades though, DiPoto has put himself out there to get severely burned, such as Mark Trumbo for Steve Cleavinger last winter. I think he may regret trading Mike Montgomery for Dan Vogelbach too.

Today's flurry of moves came with a cost, as LHP Luiz Gohara was dealt to Atlanta. Godara had a high 90s fastball with a swing-and-miss slider, and fanned 81 batters in 69 minor league innings last year. He was by far their highest upside arm in their system.

Outside of Kyle Lewis and Tyler O'Neill, I'm not crazy about the M's farm system, but in today's age of baseball, all you have to do is get into the postseason somehow and you can win it all with a tournament-type run. The wild card and division series benefit the lesser playoff teams, so in that sense I like what DiPoto is doing.

DiPoto has to show results. The farm isn't stellar and you cannot lean on it so you have to improve the ML side while addressing the farm when you can.

Dipoto will either be genious, or he will go down in flames. He has now traded away Trumbo, Alex Jackson, Mike Montgomery, Taijuan Walker, Gohara, Yarborough, Brad Miller, Carson Smith, Roenis Elias, Ketel Marte, Seth Smith etc...

The only trades I'd say he definitely won on so far was for Leonis Martin and Trading away Miley for Miranda (although jury still out on that one). I am excited for Segura at SS though. I think DiPoto made the MLB team better, and has a very athletic outfield, but if they can get hits in safeco is another story. Lots of " on this team though from 1B, 5th pitcher and corner outfield though. They have about 10 outfielders and 5 or so options at 5th pitcher. We'll see how it turns out.

I do hate giving up Gohara though. I think that one is going to bite DiPoto in the butt in 2-3 years. Who knows though. Maybe he ends up a headcase like Walker, who should be a top 10 pitcher in MLB by now, but can't pull it together more than 2 starts in a row.
