Default In Progress Now...Lamb vs. Saccone: Dems Pushing PA's 18th District Race to the Wire

This is the heart of Rump country...steel mill country too.

In another massive swing away from the GOP/Rump cabal, Pennsylvania's special election result are still coming in as we speak...this is the one where the GOP incumbent quit after it came out that he urged his mistress to get an abortion. Western PA's 18th district went for Rump by 20 points in the 2016 election, and right now with less than 5% of the vote left uncounted, Democrat Conner Lamb is poised to pull off a massive upset win tonight...leading by slighly less than 1,000 votes right now...but the real story here is the fact that the GOP spent a huge amount of money here, and also had Rump himself and other GOP lowlife's stumping for the GOP candidate here. Win or Lose...this is a huge win for the Dems already.

This district will not exist in the November election after a court decision tossed it out a part of the gerrymandering redistricting decision.

This result will probably not be known tonight, as over 7,000 votes in absentee ballots will also have to be counted. A large number of them are from Allegheny County, a Democratic stronghold that should favor Lamb.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...-election.html

This is a real nail biter.

This election is damn near tied. I think it's currently 49.7 each. Lamb has like a 95 vote lead with 99% of the votes in. The absentee ballot won't be counted until tomorrow. That might decide this.

Update now: it appears the regular vote is in with the Dem Connor Lamb holding a razor-thin 95 vote lead...now it comes down to the absentee vote, so if this holds, it looks good for Lamb.

Watching this is like being a Broncos fan outside of the Rocky Mountain region before the internet. If the Broncos game wasn't on TV, I'd watch whatever game was on and wait around for that 10-minute ticker to find out the score.

Half the absentee vote is from Allegheny County, which favors Lamb.

Two small very red precincts are still outstanding.

This is going to be a dead heat...in a district won by 20 points for Rump in November.

I did some really quick and rough math, but it sounds like Saccone needs a good 2,000 of those 3,200 votes, which is roughly 62%. Based on the votes so far, that's not good for Saccone.

If it winds up within the half-percentage point lead, either way, a recount is mandatory.

Given what he just did for the Steel industry, if he loses this thing, he will go ballistic and rip the steelworkers.

Rethugs are probably already trying to find a way to discard some Dem votes.

Sounds like somebody with some power told the old folks in Pennsylvania that they have to stay up late and count those absentee ballots. lol

Saconne has to overperform in the absentee voting to win.

He will talk about how bad the Republican nominee was and how b/c of his help they almost won.

Paul Ryan Super Pac dumped over $10 million in on this race, why?

I keep hearing due to redistricting this district won't even exist in November. So means if Lamb wins he will be out of a job in November

It is unlikely that Saccone can prevail.

His counties were won with 53-57%. He'd need over 60% of absentees there and absentees generally are slightly more Dem friendly than election day votes per Dave Wasserman.

Correct. It doesn't really matter though because it's the symbolic value this has and more to the point, the impact it has on incumbent GOP candidates who are in fights for their lives while supporting Rump. It's another example of the huge swing this country is looking at in November.

There's now a dispute as to whether the PA race mandates a recount if it's below half a percentage point. The state constitution refers this to statewide races.

Either way, regardless of how it ends up, it's a big kick in the ass for the GOP.

The last districts are now saying they are counting absentee ballots tonight, predicting a 3-hour wait till we get results.

Since it didn't matter to Rump.
