Not much progress on a long-term deal for D-Thomas. He expects to be franchise tagged on Tuesday. #Broncos

Totally agree. And I do not agree with franchising him. 13 mil? Hell no. Let him walk and get overpaid somewhere else.

Randall Cobb would make a similar impact for a lot less. The WR screen is played out.

Impact for who? DT is a top 3-4 WR in the game. There is nothing Cobb could do to replace DT. You don't game plan to stop Cobb. You game plan to take DT out of games.

I dont know if he's top 3-4.

Great player, yes, but vs tight cover, elite DB's he really struggles. Indy/Vontae Davis have really held him down in the 3 games.

Among others.

Paying big money to receivers doesnt work in terms of winning a SB, only example is Harvin and they traded him away the next year and he barely played during their SB year anyway.

They wont let him walk but from a cap standpoint, you can argue doing it.

With two days to go until the window closes for using the franchise tag and no indication that any of the primary candidates for the tag are poised to strike a long-term deal, one of the biggest names due to hit the market most likely wonít.

Itís a ďsafe betĒ the Broncos will be applying the franchise tag to receiver Demaryius Thomas, per a source with knowledge of the situation. While the two sides are talking, a deal currently isnít expected in the next two days.

While the magnitude of the partiesí positions isnít known, Thomas stands to earn $13 million fully guaranteed in 2015, if the tag is applied and if he signs the franchise tender. After the tag is applied, the Broncos and Thomas will have until July 15 to strike a long-term deal.

lets list the WR's better than DT:

1. Calvin Johnson
2. Julio Jones
3.

A case could be made for Dez Bryant, Jordy Nelson, AJ Green, or Antonio Brown, but it's not clear cut...Demaryius is most definitely in the conversation as top 5.

So DT went from playoff hero to fan zero in a couple years? He produced when the worst QB in the history of the game was throwing to him. people don't realize the Broncos have used DT in decoy situations against great defenses. They just assumed he sucked during those games. Bull****. He made defenses and coordinators adjust their gameplans, Broncos know that and the result was players like Sanders and JT wide open on other routes because the defense was rolling coverages over to DTs side.

You can't get that with most WRs in the NFL.

Ha those bubble screen passes that the defense had sniffed out with manning trying to force it in were crucial. He catches those it's no gain anyways cause they have sanders and Welker trying to block for DT. Fail before the play even starts.

How many drops does he have over his career? Higher than avg, on par, or lower? He started off 2014 a little shaky but fixed that and hit a stride after the 1st quarter of the season. I remember steelers fans wanted to kick Sanders to the curb cause he dropped balls too.

DT only had 8 passes dropped the entire year before. He was thrown to a lot last year. What I see are when he does drop passes they are on bubble screens within 3-4 yards of the line of scrimmage. A play Gase always tried to force that produces nothing anyways. I could live without ever seeing a bubble screen pass out to a WR again. Especially when smaller players are trying to block for bigger players.

Better that it's one of the best CBs(the best IMO) in the game than some journeyman. Our QB gets owned routinely by some people, does it mean he sucks?

Check the QB rating when QBs throw to a WR in Vontae direction. I remember reading an article back in Dec that it was 41. Don't see many WRs doing anything against him. I can only think of Brown.

, to be fair, Vontae owns alot of WR's but Vontae does seem to get under his skin when they play.

DT dropped passes on those screens because it was a contract year. Never happened before. He was making a business decision.

Yep DT drops some balls. The vast majority do. Doesn't matter. Personally I'm just disgusted with those comments about being scared to play in New England. That's a much bigger deal than the guy having average hands for an NFL receiver.

The one guy he's 2-1 against in AFC championships. The rush to paint PM as some kind of average liability is baffling to me

What's his overrall record against him? Not sure where "average liability" was in any post of mine here. I'm just stating great players can still have problems from someone who's got their number. DT with Vontae, Manning with Belly

Your original comment made it seem like he's routinely beaten by competition when he's anything but. And you're not really part of the "lets blame Manning for everything and **** on his career" crowd, but the glass fully empty revisionist history by some is just odd.

Either manning slept with too many posters girlfriends or Chrissy has poisoned the well to such an extent that people have just turned anti PM at every turn

** but to the original point, considering mouth breathers around here just shout playoffs whenever some brings up PM, I don't think his record against belichick in championship games is insignificant when discussing ineptitude against said foe
