Swag needs to be #2 QB before PS starts, he needs the reps over a guy who will be looking for a new team next year.

I don't think any real decision will be made until these 2 play in the pre season. They are just going to run with these two the way it is until those games are played. Sloter looked light years ahead of Lynch last preseason, so I guess $W@G will just have to ball the F out in games to take this from Relaxton once and for all.

It's not a competition if they are not even splitting reps with the 2's.

Not many coaches want a rookie as the backup, especially one with some questions off the field that still have a ways to go before they're fully answered and we're really comfortable considering it in the past. I think Kelly will be either #3 on the roster or on the PS if Lynch shows anything in preseason. I doubt they throw away one last chance to see if he can live up to his draft status even if Kelly shines. See Sloter for comparison.

The Denver Broncos do have a quarterback battle (at backup)
Chad Kelly is tired of being Mr. Irrelevant on the Denver Broncos.

https://www.9news.com/article/sports...p/73-578814341

Denver Who says there's no quarterback battle?

The Broncos still don't know who's going to be their backup quarterback. Paxton Lynch may have the inside track, but Chad Kelly is tired of being Mr. Irrelevant on this team and he's ready to contribute.

Im focused on myself trying to get better," Kelly said. "Thats just leading my team down the field every single day. Even in the classroom, you have to get better. Its not just on the football field. You have to know your reads inside and out and come to work every day prepared.

And Kelly believes he's far more prepared thanks to starter Case Keenum.

Its awesome," Kelly said. "Hes been through so much and to get to this position is exceptional. As much as I can take from him and Paxton, those guys have been through some stuff before. Im trying to learn each and every day.

"Theres a lot of stuff I have never seen before, but those guys have been through it plenty of times, so were just trying to learn from each other. We can all take something from each one of us every single day and try to do that thing the next day.

Kelly didn't play last season but he believes watching helped. Still, there's no substitute for actually getting on the field.

Kelly believes he's grown up a lot since last season and his teammates agree.

Will that maturity translate to the game? We will all find out when the Broncos begin their preseason Aug. 11 against the Minnesota Vikings.

I think this is an accurate statement about Kelly. If you watch his college tape, you see this often. He does make plays and he does turn nothing into something. He makes it look easy and clean as Vance said. Kelly is a fearless gunslinger who can make some crazy throws with plenty of zip on the ball.
That is Kelly’s game. The question is can he continue being an error-free gunslinger in the NFL and can he keep his nose clean off the field. He has done both so far and maybe putting heat on Lynch for the number two job.
I still believe the Broncos want Lynch to be their number two and hope it finally clicks for him and allows Kelly to develop some. He hasn’t played a snap of football in game action since October of 2016 so I am not sure that is the sort of inexperience they want for their number two quarterback.
We shall see how this goes and it will continue to play out throughout camp and into the preseason.

Last year the Broncos tried everything they could to hand Lynch the #1 job, and he failed miserably. This year they are trying everything they can to hand Lynch the #2 job, and it's not looking good so far.

$w@g coming.

I hated Kelly before because he's such a knuckle-head.

But wow - he was such a good pro last year and he's working so damn hard this year. I also love that he's taking time for the fans.

I'm cheering for him - I want him to succeed and PRESERVE! He seems to be doing everything that Paxton didn't do, which is study, work hard, and get better.

Lynch will NOT be the 3rd QB. If Kelly outplays him Lynch will be cut and Denver will bring in a vet to compete with Kelly or to back him up.

Who said anything about him being the #3 QB?

Chad Struggled today. had a couple good throws but took a risky int throwing into double coverage.

i imagine he still needs to shake some rust off.

He will probably struggle a bit in his first game in 2 years as well.

But i look for him to pick it up by preseason game 2.

He will be fine Shane. This competition won't be decided until the pre season games. Not worried. $W&G is a baller in game time situations. That's where he's at his best.

True. I heard Lynch is still scrambling everywhere.

Kelly is in his rookie year basically. And learning from Keenum will be good for him.

Wide eyed and doesnt know anything really yet, except for what he saw watching.

When the bullets start flying is when he will start to improve.

Already making excuses for your boy huh? That's not a good sign. Sloter really was a rookie last year, and he only had one year of starting experience at an FCS school, yet he lit it up big time. If Kelly doesn't own preseason against scrubs in a similar fashion it really doesn't bode well for him honestly.

I agree. Kelly has to look as good as Sloter did last year.
Hell, there may be a chance DEN could get Sloter back...
Just sayin.
