New casting information for Season 6 is calling for characters of "Northern Households" including a figure who sounds a lot like one of the Umbers. Could be Greatjon, since Clive Mantle didn't return for season 2 (scheduled conflict) and apparently hasn't re-signed. So there's Sansa's likely destination and plotline.

"The North Remembers!"

Wasn't that where Rickon was supposedly going? Maybe finally finding out where the missing Stark is. I just think Theon is taking Sansa to the Iron Islands

Yeah, in the show. In the book, I think he was rumored to have gone to Skaggos, and I think Davos was on his way there to search for him.

So maybe, in the show, Davos goes to the Umbers looking for allies against the Boltons (since the Watch won't help now) and meets up with Rickon that way.

If Sansa goes there as well, it could finally result in a family reunion.

My guess is White Harbor, held by the Manderlys. It is the 5th largest city in Westeros and loyal to the Starks. It was basically untouched in the war, because Robb Stark asked Wyman Manderly to hold onto his armies to defend the coast.

Could be, but the part sounds a little more like an Umber:

Lord of Noble Northern House: (Casting age anywhere between 25-50) The lord is a savage warrior, and he rules a distinguished house in the very far North, and the role is said to be an impactful one. He’s described as a massive bear of a man with a beard and temper to match, and hatred that run deep, and he can be violent. The show’s looking for someone with a powerful physique who can tower over other cast members, a Northern English Accent and specifies he has to be at least 180 cm tall. The role will be on 2 episodes. (emphasis added)

Manderly was a big guy, but that was mostly fat (fingers the size of sausages) and he was about 60 years old. Greatjon was known for his height (nearly seven feet).

And would White Harbor qualify as "the very far North"? It was at least a couple hundred miles south of Winterfell and the Dreadfort, wasn't it?

Finally, I think the TV show has to account for Greatjon. In the book, he was killed at the Red Wedding. But the TV wiki page says:

The Greatjon is not present at the Twins during the events of the Red Wedding, making him one of the few bannermen of House Stark that remains alive and free.

In the books, Greatjon was taken hostage at the Red Wedding, and is still at the Twins. His son, Smalljon, is the one who was killed.

You're right. Same difference though. In the show, he didn't attend the Red Wedding, so he couldn't be killed or taken hostage there and he's still at large and unaccounted for.

As for other casting news:

Lachlan: He’s the big leader of a group of renegades who have turned on the land that they swore to protect. They’re now extorting the poor and vulnerable. He appears in 2 episodes in season 6.

Flynn: He’s part of an outlaw band. The group is using religion to justify terrorizing and extorting what they need from the people of the countryside. He appears in 2 episodes in season 6. He appears to be part of Lachlan’s band.

Japeth: Another member of the outlaw band is this lieutenant. He’s a “rough-and-ready type” with a strong physical presence, also appearing two episodes.

This could be anything, but the whole notion of "using religion to justify terrorizing and extorting what they need from the people of the countryside" sounds like "Sparrows gone bad."

This could be part of Jaime's next TV arc. Or it could be a chance to reintroduce the Brotherhood without Banners. But it may be a setup for this character:

Priest, in his 40’s or 50’s. A gruff ex-soldier who found religion. Now a no-nonsense rural priest who ministers to the poor of the countryside. He’s salt-of-the-earth man who has weathered many battles.

If that's Septon Meribald, then we may meet his gravedigger, who some suspect is a recovered Sandor Clegane. It would be cool to see a pentinent Sandor step up against a bunch of scum and eat all their chicken again.

I don't see it being the Manderly's.

House's in the North (of the two mentioned) who I'd assume are it: Reed (Howland), Glover (Robbett).

Galbart was already in the HBO show, but barely, but Glover is described as big in the books and the Glover's are fiercely loyal to Winterfell and the Starks.

Umber is obviously a good guess as well.

I think we will see a Arthur Dayne flashback, with the Sword of Morning as well.

I was re-watching some of Season 4 yesterday and noticed a couple of things.

First, they definitely foreshadowed Shireen's burning. Selyse Baratheon wanted to leave Shireen at Dragonstone and asked why they were taking the girl on the campaign in the north, since she'd just be a distraction. Mel told her that they'd need Shireen and had Selyse look into the flames - at which point Selyse got a spooky, shocked look. So, apparently, Selyse was aware all along that they'd be BBQing Shireen.

Second, I think it's strongly implied that the mercenaries employed by Stannis were at least part of the "Golden Company." Before going to Braavos, Davos and Stannis debated hiring them. If that's indeed who they were, then that was probably another indication that we'd see a big change in or deletion of the Connington/Aegon subplot.

It had to have been the Golden Company. They are good for 10,000 men. No other mercenary force that big exists.

Since we've covered every scenario imaginable in this thread, I've got one more.

Theon makes a comeback and wins the throne in the end. When you think about it, all he has lost is a pinky finger and his schlong. He likely still has his coconuts. All he needs is a talented Tantrika to get the engine started. Then, boom, he's right back in business and can produce a heir. Hell, maybe he is even Azor Ahai.

Some offshore sportsbooks have already established odds for various characters "winning" the Game, which I assume they define as sitting on the Iron Throne at the end of the television series.

I'm not sure if this is updated through the end of Season 5, but it was recently:

Daenerys Targaryen — 5/2
Jon Snow — 3/1
Aegon VI Targaryen — 6/1
Tyrion Lannister — 15/2
Petyr Baelish — 15/2
Margaery Tyrell — 14/1
Euron Greyjoy — 20/1
Varys — 20/1
Stannis Baratheon — 25/1
Sansa Stark — 25/1
Night’s King — 25/1
Cersei Lannister — 40/1
Trystane Martell — 40/1
Bran or Rickon Stark — 50/1
Arya Stark — 50/1
Ramsay Bolton — 50/1
Hodor — 500/1

(I've got to guess that Stannis may have moved down the list a bit, even though some people think he's still alive.) I'm not sure if this is a complete list and I don't see the "none of the above option."

I think if I had to make a bet, Sansa is getting decent odds.

Fans of Aegon VI Targaryen better have a talk with the scriptwriters since he seems to have been written completely out of the show.

BTW, in view of all the people that previously swore off the series due to complaints about this or that, the Season 5 finale broke all previous viewer records for the show.

Not surprising. The stupider it gets the bigger the mass appeal. Most people are idiots after all.

What a horrible bit of timing for Sansa...just as she leaves a candle in the window...Stannis shows up at the wall and Briene leaves...literally seconds before the candle goes in the window.

Great formulaic writing!

Your shtick is tired. Out of every post you've made in this thread, only one hasn't been your normal Debbie Downer whining:

http://orangemane.com/BB/search.php?searchid=251546

Also, curiously, as a regular poster with 10k posts in a few years, this season is the first time you've posted in here so odds are (like most ASOIAF readers), you were introduced to the books by the show which makes your level of hypocrisy even more amusing.
I started reading the books about a year or two before the show started, but I'm not here to prove my fan credentials or anything. I didn't post earlier because I didn't have HBO and didn't start watching it until the third season had started. I actually really liked the first four seasons by the way, but the fifth blew big time. Poorly written, poorly directed, and just poorly executed all-around.

Everybody knows that though. The only question is how.

And the obvious answer seems to be Melisandre. I just don't believe that this is going in the direction of Jon warging into Ghost.
