In my opinion, the NFL season length is about right. (Maybe a week too long but close enough)

Baseball should start May 1st (I'm only referring to professional, not HS or college) and end by end of September. I know it doesn't happen a lot but when games are snowed out...it should tell you something.

Hockey is too long. Stanley Cup in June? That just doesn't seem right. Start the season in Nov. (close enough to to start of winter) and end it by middle of April.

Like I said earlier...none of that will happen because of the money involved but considering just the sport itself, some of these seasons are extended way too much.

So, I'm just watching Gleyber Torres continue to rake for the Yankees and I have to ask BroncoAndrew, jetson66, MileHighMagic, and our other Cubs fans, was 3 months of Chapman really worth it?

They did win the World series, so the question is, was the world series really worth it?

On top of that, itís such a hindsight question considering that everybody and their mother thought of Addison Russell as a perennial All-Star shortstop in 2016 when the trade was made.

A World Series title is definitely worth it.

What they should be upset at is giving up someone even better than Torres (Jimenez) for much less than a World Series.

Haha not at all, no.

I wouldn't discount a return of the 154 game season due to the crackdown on "greenies" with a nod to the April rainouts. It'll be at least discussed during the next bargaining.

, was winning the WS worth it for the Cubs? Of course it was. The real question is could they have gotten Chapman for anything else?

Cashman versus Epstein. Two of the best ever.

I guess it is a matter of perspective. If you follow a team that has recently won one or several world series titles, the deal may feel more raw. But, for a tortured franchise like the Cubs, getting that monkey off of their back obviously carries much more value.

Still, the Chapman deal feels like more of a heist as he was back pitching for the Yankees within 5 months. Where as with Quintana, the Cubs get to hold onto him for a few years.

And I guess this is my other issue. I maintain that the Chapman deal was a bit of an outlier. We haven't seen a 3 month rental, much less a relief pitcher 3 month rental, go for anywhere close to that price since.

Yes, Chapman got them to the finish line, but Jesus did they pay a hefty price for those rings.

Looks like Eloy will make it to the show before Kopech. The latter has really regressed this year. He was much better in AAA last year than this year.

Eloy on the other hand moves up to AAA Charlotte tomorrow. Prolly will be in Chicago by August.

Robert moves up to High A. Cease and Basabe up to AA. Dunning should be in AAA soon. Once he gets the rust off, Hansen should be in AAA by the end of the year. Collins will be in AAA by the end of the year, too. Just needs to focus on catching more.

The Owners are going to fight any proposal that shortens the season. They make way too much money off of ticket sales, and Television broadcast deals. And the MLBPA has almost zero leverage to try to push for a 154 game season.

Expand the postseason slightly and share some of the extra playoff revenue.

Might help.

What's up with Bryce Harper hitting .212 this season?

Costing himself a lot of money. The $400 million contract talk is now something of a joke. That said, I doubt he goes hungry.

Dane Dunning with serious elbow injury. That's a huge blow if confirmed. He was pretty close to making it to Chicago. Was prolly gonna move up to AAA soon. I really hope it's not bad but it looks very bad.

That sucks. He doesn't have the pure stuff of Kopech/Cease/Hansen but has the best command of any of them and probably the highest floor.

He'll just sign a 1 year deal or a deal with many opt outs.

There is a rumor floating around that he really wants to play with Bryant. I don't know about any financials but it wouldn't shock me if something like this transpired.

Bryce Harper should stay in Washington to share the same outfield with Juan Soto and Victor Robles. It has a chance to be one of the most iconic outfields in baseball history.

Don't underestimate the greenies factor. For generations, players ate those like candy to get through the season. It's just not safe and reasonable anymore. Of course, you're right, many owners will balk.

Iím not forgetting the greenie factor. It gives the MLBPA no leverage. Fans are conditioned already to turn on any player suspected of using PEDs or PED like substances. Owners just donít care enough about what players have to do to get through the season. And without public support, using the greenie angle is just a complete non-starter.

The Detroit Tigers have fired pitching coach Chris Bosio.

General manager Al Avila told ESPN's Jerry Crasnick on Wednesday that Bosio was dismissed for using racially insensitive language directed at a team employee.

Avila said bullpen coach Rick Anderson will take over for Bosio. A.J. Sager, the Tigers' roving pitching instructor, will fill in as bullpen coach until Triple-A pitching coach Jeff Pico arrives and assumes that spot on manager Ron Gardenhire's staff.

The team, which announced the move Wednesday, says it holds employees "to the highest standards of personal conduct on and off the field," adding it has zero tolerance for Bosio's behavior.
