Default The 2020 NFL QB Draft Prospects...Who do you like?

This is not a prediction...more like a logical guess.

Sometime in the next 13 games, the FO (John Elway) will begin to formulate an opinion about whether he made the right decision with the solution he opted for at QB this year and in 2019. I have no idea how that will play out, and in fact I could see it going either way. But once it does, Chad Kelly's name will be in his mind, and he will be looking not at the current season, but at what he needs to do to determine whether Kelly is the guy he will go to in 2019...or 2020, depending on how Keenum is playing now.

Let's assume he feels that he still hasn't found what he's looking for, even though he might have. I say this since he's been looking at a LOT of QB's over the past three seasons...he likes to do this. So given that it would take at least the 2019 season to learn what Kelly is if he begins to play at some point this year (See Siemian and Oz for confirmation), then who is out there in 2020 that you think he (and we) should be looking at?

Assume for the purpose of argument that any underclassman eligible in the 2019 draft stays in school until 2020, and let's examine the possibilities.

I'll start with two names to consider...Oregon's Justin Herbert...no surprise, he's been mentioned already...and one you might not have thought much about...CU's own Steven Montez. Both would be available in 2020 if they stay in school. If you missed this...Montez is pretty good. In fact he's been named to the Maxwell Award's watch list, and some think he might be in Herbert's class. He's got NFL size, 6'5", 225, an NFL arm that can make all the throws, he's mobile, and he's pretty bright, having been a HS guy who made the National Honor Society. He also seems like a pretty dedicated guy, and one with some maturity as well. It's been a really long time since CU had a QB considered this talented, and I'm going to be keeping an eye on him to see where he goes from here. Montez is also playing in an offense where he's not under center, with all that argument entails, so there's that as well to consider. However, he has NFL tools, and he's right under our noses...so he's of interest to me.

Who else?

If we find out that "Swag" is actually more of the same and early preseason hype vanishes by next season, who should Mr. FO be looking at in 2020? Let's assume that we also won't be getting Aaron Rogers or somebody like that in free agency this time around.

Who do you like for the 2020 draft?

Montez has been working with Peyton Manning and Eli's passing coach.

Herbert and Stidham are considered 1st round picks. And i don't see Stidham being worth it.

Then there's Patterson, Thorson, Lock. Grier and Finley. All 2nd and 3rd rounders. Throson's knee is a concern, but he might get looked at as a late 1st.

Then there's Lewerke. This kid could be a Cousins type of QB.

Apparently, NFL teams like his measurable's and his vision. He checks off those boxes that a lot of team's are looking for. I dunno....

Or just stockpile picks and make a big trade and go get Tua in 2020.

I’ll be really pissed if we go into the 2019 draft with no real clue regarding Kelly’s franchise QB potential. Keenum is such a massive waste of time.

What makes you think a clue is what Elway wants?

Oz: 4 years
Siemian: 3 years
Lynch: 3 years

Assuming Kelly got 8 games this year, how would that answer his question?
