Default RIP Art Bell

It's kind of fitting that Art Bell passed on Friday the 13th.

Art Bell thought nobody went to the moon. Gaff thinks the CIA has secret bases on the moon. Different nuts.

I loved Art Bell... he had a great radio show but you can't be a sucker listening to it, strictly entertainment... RIP

I remember him doing a show around 1994-95 where he said, "I want to speak to an immortal. If you're an immortal, please call the show."

Of course, he got crazy callers. One guy said he had been hit by a car head on going 40 mph and walked away without a scratch.

This was pre-Internet boom, so that's what made the show appealing. Nobody was doing this kind of content and he had hundreds of affiliates nationwide.

If you were on a long rural drive around 11 p.m.- 1 a.m., his show made the late night trip a lot better when radio options were scarce.

The frantic caller from Area 51 was a classic. Always kind of wanted to believe it

That was classic...during one of his calls the satellite broadcasting his syndicated show went off-the-air and people around America were sure the government had shut him down as the show went off-the-air for 10-15 minutes.

Meh. He made a fortune from feeding insomniac schizos, retards, and manics a stream of late-night bull****.

I used to stay up late in the 1990s to listen to Art Bell. He hosted some great shows. I recall the interview with the Hopi elders at the time of comet Hale Bopp. And the ones with Bob Lazar, Phillip Corso, Dannion Brinkley, etc.

Wild stuff.

But I hated Bell's politics.

Back in college, I listened to a lot of Art Bell. That was the most interesting late night radio show of all time. There wasn't a topic he wouldn't put on and give a benefit of a doubt. Sometimes you could tell he didn't buy a word of what his guest was saying, but he'd still interview them with respect and curiosity and try to get the story out of them. Sometimes it was bad, but mostly it was magic. RIP.

Call? Any truth to the rumor he had aliens kill him and promptly put his resume in "just in case Noory dies too"?
