They do have a deep pitching well. I forgot they had AJ Cole and Joe Ross too in their minors.

Scherzer is 30. Zimmermann is 29.

Who would you rather invest 7 years and $210 million in?

Shifting Zimmerman who is your current ace to the #2 position on the staff makes him possibly the one of the top 2-3 #2 pitchers in baseball. That's a wicked staff. You need pitching to win a WS. You can get there with a stacked pen as the Royals showed but sometimes you will have a game where you need a guy to shut a team down.

I'm not a fan of Scherzer so I wouldn't sign either for that much.
But half of the contract is deferred so he will make 15 mil per for 14 seasons.

Free-agent pitcher Max Scherzer has agreed to a seven-year contract with the Washington Nationals, a source confirmed Sunday night to ESPN.com's Jim Bowden.
The deal is for $210 million with half deferred, according to multiple reports. Scherzer reportedly will receive $15 million annually for 14 years. The deal also includes a record $50 million signing bonus, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press.
