4. Jewell willl hopefully replace Trevathan in 2019.
5. And the Simmons/Cravens combo should be able to replace Ward.

Theoretically, the Broncos have almost everything they need to compete at a championship level if Keenum pans out.
1. That's not going to happen. I think you are forgetting just how good Ware was during the Super Bowl run.
2. I will be shocked if Roby even sniffs that level. However I'm not sure he needs to be if our pass rush is good enough.
3. I can kind of see that, to varying levels of comparability.
4. I was initially extremely skeptical that Jewell could function as a Trevathan type. Thought he was way too slow. But looking at their combine and pro day numbers, Jewell may actually be quicker and his instincts seem to be off the charts. I think Jewell could be a key contributor earlier than Trev was.
5. I don't think that's necessarily true. Ward's two biggest contributions were as a punishing stopper and enforcer in the short pass game, and as a blitzer. Simmons is pretty much the opposite of that, and while Cravens can cover and blitz, he's not an enforcer. He's not a big hitter. He may not even be a great tackler.

I get what you are trying to do but the 2015 Denver Broncos are gone for good and if we find success it's not going to be an exact replica of what we had before.

Trevathan was still nursing injuries during his pro day and combine. Its one of the reasons his numbers were so bad and he ended up slipping to later rounds. I think at one point he was projected to be a second round pick. We got lucky and scooped him up after he tumbled.

I'm not going to make any predictions on how Jewell will do as a pro. But if you want to compare his combine numbers to Trev, you have to acknowledge that caveat.

Good to see Ray's weight back up looks like he is in that 240-250lb range. The wrist injury killed is ability to lift.

Think of 3rd and 7+, Broncos "NASCAR" package could look like this:
Von Miller

Derek Wolfe

Bradley Chubb

Shane Ray

or with DeMarcus Walker instead of Wolfe. We have some interesting pass rush depth this season.

Ray has yet to show that he is a beast on an nfl field. There is a reason his option wasnt picked up.

He had 8 sacks his second year when healthy. That definitely showed more than a little bit of potential.

As others have pointed out a lot of those were coverage/cleanup sacks.

I disagree there. He has shown he is far from a beast and very undisciplined in the run game because he wants to chase sacks.

3 of them were also in one game against Cinci.

Then he vanished until the final 6 games of the season.

Needless to say that we have options to get pass rushers on the field. A four man rotation of Chubb, Miller, Ray, and Barrett along with inside rush rotation of Wolfe, Walker, Gotsis, and Shelby Harris is deadly. With those guys and Peko at nose, thatís the best front 7 we have had in since the super bowl.

Correct, all but 2 of them. 1 of them came on an uncharacteristic schematic error by the Patriots offensively which matched Ray up against a guard on a massive island, and the other was against a backup tackle who no longer plays in the NFL. Ray is the furthest thing from a beast, and I am sure if he was the Broncos would have extended him for 9 million next season no question, instead he will probably be signed for less then half of that, or be somewhere else.

Because he was hurt last year and there is little reason for Denver to invest the cash in him after taking Chubb, perception wise at least.

He needed to get stronger and play more downs, he wasn't able to do so last season and when on the field he was awful because of it.

You realize that they were still sacks right?
You do realize that the list of Denver Broncos netting 8 sacks in a single season reads as Von Miller, Simon Fletcher, Karl Mecklenburg, Trevor Pryce, Elvis Dumervil, Shaun Phillips, Alfred Williams, Rulon Jones, Maa Tanuvasa, Mike Croel, Neil Smith, Ron Holmes, DeMarcus Ware, Bertrand Berry, Reggie Hayward and Shane Ray.

At some point you become who you are and for Ray he is an average player. He has had more than one year and has never looked like a special player that is obvious right away.
