I always liked the format for the Memorial Cup in the juniors and ultimately I want to see the NHL have some competition with KHL and other leagues for the cup. Different leagues, different styles etc.

Not that long ago, the IHL was starting to try and compete with the NHL but unfortunately folded due to cost overruns. Its a radical idea, I know, but the game would benefit tremendously.

It's hard to mesh the talent and coaching to compete with the NHL style though. It'd be similar to European basketball vs NBA basketball.

. Deflection: it's not for everyone.

Where's the list of expansion winners?

Deflection on what? You brought up the cup and I corrected you. You said the Toronto franchise was not considered an expansion franchise because the league itself was in the first year and new.

The Toronto Arenas were created as a new franchise due to the Toronto Blueshirts of the NHA being in an ownership dispute, the NHL itself was formed because they could not simply oust the owner of the Blushirts and they transferred the Toronto players to the Arenas, which was only a temporary franchise.

Arenas

I was thinking about Blues as well as the Maple Leafs earlier but I forgot, the Blues made it to the cup final in their inagural season but they did not win it.

St. Louis Blues

Closest thing I can think of as to what the VGK run is like, is the Colorado Avalanche. MAF is playing like Roy, the first year in Denver and they won a cup right out of the gate, first major championship in city history etc.

Too many similarities outside of being an expansion club.

VGK making the playoffs never surprised me at all...Shoulda made that Freakin bet. @500-1 to win the cup.
Just think, The Avs are a younger team..Just exchange Fluery for Varlomov-Bernier and whoever that guy that stole game 5.....Hammond?
The future is bright for the Avs

Very similar to the Avs 1st year - I agree. I have friends in Las Vegas who weren't hockey fans at all, and now they are crazy about the Golden Knights. Same thing happened here - the Avs created a new generation of hockey fans with that first year success.

MAF is putting a lot of playoff demons to bed with this run. If they win the cup...

I don't understand the fascination some Avs have with Stastny. He was a very solid player for us but my feelings on him are similar to O'Reilly, he chased the paper and I don't really care about what he does after that.

Statsny could take a discount with the Avalanche but if hes still looking for cheddar, Id say Montreal would be a likely landing spot.

Laine is only 20 years old but hes played like someone that was in their prime the whole season. I feel like the Jets are similar to the 2009 version of the Blackhawks that lost to the Red Wings in the WCF. Theyll be contenders for awhile.

I'd rather Stastny stay away. Now if the Avs wanna sign Tavares, I'm all for that.

I really want to see him win a cup. He deserves it. He has been one of the best players of his generation and he got stuck behind the Pens juggernaut.

WSH 4 TB 0

(WSH wins 4-3)

The Caps shutout Lightning (if the score holds) in Game 6 and Game 7 to advance to the SCF for the first time since 1998.

Vegas vs. Washington. I'm guessing not a ton of folks had that as your SCF at the beginning of the season or even playoffs.

Alot of storylines for this series.

GMGM vs. his old team

Ovie vs Flower again.

Will it be an expansion champion or the Caps breaking their curse?

Very interesting story line for the finals. But umm...I want the Caps to sweep and crush their asses.

Proud of my boys. Although I live in Vegas now, growing up in DC I’ve always been a caps/wizards/orioles fan.

I hope Washington can break their curse. Ovi deserves one.

Caps will be swept by an expansion team built by a GM they fired.

DC is so cursed as a sports town. If the caps can pull it off it would be big time for the city. Would mean a lot.
