Pretty darn quickly, I would start asking my teammates out on dates. I couldn't help myself. It kinda sucks, but there's nothing anybody could do about it. If I found a teammate gf, and she started acting up, I would ditch her pretty quick, because there would be so much tail running around. It would be every guy's dream come true. Not sure how good it would be for the rest of the team.

The guy is gay, that's fine, he wants to play football, that's fine, he's got all his right to do that and more, this country affords him the opportunity to be whatever he wants to be free of harrassment, but we all know this is a first in the NFL, and whether we wanted or not, it's going to attract a lot of national media, I hope I'm wrong and they let the young man just play football without being labeled, that's what I'd like to see...

Do you "people" envision this type of scenario in Denver?
Don't you rather stay away from the media vultures that will feast on this type of event?

Only first is that he is open about being gay. NFL has had gay players. It has gay players right now. And knowing how tight knit teams get, pretty sure the players know who is and who is not. Yet the world keeps on spinning.

There's no secret to anybody that gay athletes exist virtually in any kind of sports and in any walk of life and people around those venues know who they are...
The problem is, -and not that I'm ecouraging not to go public with their sexuality- when you make it public. This is so taboo still that it will take many more athletes to come out of the closet for people to start seeing it as a not big deal.
I've heard here by the way -that Aaron Rodgers is gay. Now, whether he is or he's not, remains a rumor, but it has not affected the way people look at him, nor has it become a distraction to his team and/or an invasion of his private life...
Now, what happens if Rodgers, hypotherically speaking assuming he's gay for example- decides to announce during the Summer that he's gay...
Do you think life will go on as usual for him and the Green Bay Packers?
I think not...
That's the difference between assuming someone famous is gay, and that the same famous person admitting he's gay...

So here's John Elway's opinion: http://www.9news.com/rss/article/377...ds-Michael-Sam

"I applaud Michael Sam and wish him the very best as he continues the pursuit of his NFL dream," Elway said. "As we look toward the combine and draft, we will evaluate Michael just like any other draft prospect - on the basis of his ability, character and NFL potential. His announcement will have no effect on how we see him as a football player."

"Having spent 16 years in an NFL locker room, the bottom line is that it's about treating others with respect and earning that respect," the legendary Broncos quarterback and Pro Football Hall of Famer said. "By all indications, it appears Michael has done just that throughout his football career."

Just some more food for thought. The man does know how to work the media soundbite. And yes, guess what it does in fact now put the Broncos in new discussion other than the Super Bowl loss. PR machine at work, whether we actually draft him or not, we've already given ourselves a positive spin on this. Well played John.

I'm lucky....I can jerk off with equal enjoyment with either hand.

A lot of times, I'll go 8 innings with my right hand and send a signal to the bullpen to bring out the lefty to finish things up.

My left hand has finished more games than Mariano Rivera.

My left hand is so automatic, that when he gets the call to go into the game, the bullpen manager doesn't say a word and simply hands him two Bounty paper towels.

A team could make this work if they wanted to. Who came in with more distractions last year than Teo? The chargers simply did not let him talk to reporters. I think during training camp Sam doesn't do any interviews and by the time the season starts there will be thousands of other story lines to follow. I don't think this would be too big of a deal if be can play.

This is probably the lawyer in me talking, but don't call him "First" just yet. That title means something, it's a big deal. And it's more than just football, he'll be the first openly gay player in any team sport (NBA's Collins hasn't played in a game since announcing).

Best research says 3 to 8 percent of American men are gay (sorry Tombstone) ... that means right now we got 120 friends of Dorothy suiting up every Sunday. Any one of them can call a press conference tomorrow, and BOOM! Suck it, rookie! (no pun intended). ... Now HE gets a phone call from the President, HE'S the answer to a Jeopardy! question, HE'S the guest star oin sitcoms, the guy in PSA commercials, HE has a lifetime of invites to be grand marshal of parades from Greenwich Village to Key West to West Hollywood to San Francisco. That's worth jumping in front of this kid.

there's an openly gay MLS player. there's also an openly gay rugby star in, I think, Wales. probably plenty of others in Europe that I'm not aware of.

I don't think you can consider NFL players an average cross section of American males anymore than you can consider Olympic men figure skaters an average cross section of American males.

Just saying the 3 to 8 percent may not hold water in the NFL.

It's a matter of attraction. I know for a fact I never selected to be attracted to men. I just was. I know for a fact you never selected to be attracted to women. You just were. I dont think bisexuality weakens the case that we are attracted to what we are attracted to before we are even conscious of it. As you stated, the choice is to pursue what we find attractive. That is the only choice, not what we like in the first place. Some people prefer both. Which I think is greedy, but whatever floats their boat.

I think it's a choice otherwise you wouldn't have homosexuality in prisons, that is, guys who claim to be straight, but while in prison, choose to have sex with other men (some get raped against their wishes) Or, how do you explain the male porno star who claims he's straight, but he makes homosexual pornos?

This is the last thing I'm gonna say on this because I've already got one neg rep on the subject. Bisexuality totally negates your argument IMHO as does the prison system in which homosexuality happens by "straight" guys, as does the porno stars who claim that when not on camera, they are straight.
