I am not going to base my opinion off of Georgia blowing a 2 touchdown lead, and I am hopeful that he can be the right one to get Colorado headed in the right direction.

Colorado doesn't play Alabama so help right there. We just need someone to take next steps. We'll see in a few years what program looks like.

He should do well with the Buffs, It's not so big of a school that he is set up for failure without a massive season.

Well, he looks like somebody who can get players in line. At least he's got that going for him. Reminds me of my old drill sergeant.

From CU's press release:

Tucker will begin work immediately and will not coach Georgia in the Sugar Bowl against Texas on New Year's Day.

"Welcome To The Fight" was coach Mac's thing.

Would think Tucker will come up with something similar.

You can always slide the players into easier classes to help them pass.

There are schools with stronger academic requirements than Colorado who do fine - Stanford, Michigan, Notre Dame.

Not really comparing apples to oranges.... but I think that CU can compete on both an academic and athletic level with other mid-high tier academic schools like Washington, Texas, UCLA.

Getting academically borderline and JUCOs in has actually been one of areas CU has done a good job at the past few seasons.

Actually, all D-I schools follow the same admissions criteria for student-athletes. Most (if not all) of these kids, at least in the two revenue producing sports, are granted eligibility waivers so they can enroll and participate.

Pac 12 schools would be MAJORLY-screwed if they applied anything close to their normal admissions criteria ... 2 of the 10 best universities in the world are Pac 12 schools; plus UCLA, Colorado, Washington, USC and probably a couple more are far more selective than most colleges. Wouldn't be fair without uniform NCAA standards ... SEC and Big XII schools would have a real competitive advantages.

Good, I didn't know that ... most schools have a staff dedicated to compliance issues, which means they work with the recruit to apply for eligibility waivers. NCAA even publishes a waiver application "How-To Guide" for schools to use.

I saw MacIntyre frequently around campus talking to professors about specific players. While the admissions criteria might be easier for players, generally speaking the players are held to the same academic standard that others in the same classes are.

That said, that doesn't mean that the coaching staff/academic advisors don't work with departmental counselors to set up a "path of least resistance" per se for the players that are borderline.

I can't speak for the SEC though... but Jamarcus Russell and Patrick Peterson both did graduate from LSU, so....
