I run both of those and Spywareblaster. I haven't had a single virus or anything.
Be sure your'e running Ad-Aware (not Adware).

Adware is a problem program in itself using a similar name to install spyware.

Yep, I run all three. I do a check about once every week or two. Spywareblaster prevents worms etc. from being installed. All free. Great deal.

Yep, Firefox (see my sig). No need to run any redundant programs if you use Firefox.

I run all three programs, although I probably don't need to. They work, so why not?

I have thought about using firefox. Would I need to uninstall IE first? If I don't like firefox, would it be difficult to re-install IE?

IE is deeply embedded in Windows and a lot of other apps depend on it just being installed so you just leave it alone after you install Firefox. Some sites can only be viewed by IE (not code compliant) so you might need to open IE to view those type of sites.

Most people find FF faster than IE on top of being much safer to use to surf the net. One mod in the FF support forum has been using Mozilla based browsers for over 5 years and never has had ANYTHING turn up in scans by AdAware or SpySweeper.

Yep i run both i just run the privacy up on the IE to eliminate cookies i love firefox thus far no BS patches every other day for cracks that shouldnt be there to begin with and the updates that screw applications up while iam still using them .Firefox is smoother and less cluttered plain and simple.

Scanning once or twice a week, AdAware usually turns up a small number (>15) of files on my PC... and SpyBot always comes up with the same 5 files to remove (they'll be there even if I do back-to-back scans).

Mozilla FF is my preferred browser, but IE is still installed.

I'd really be interested in knowing how that forum mod manages to keep his PC that clean... that's very impressive.

Webroot software is offering their product, Spy Sweeper, free to Colorado residents through 4/16/05. I just downloaded it and it has found over 40 spyware items that were not found by the Spyware Blaster program I have been using.

The link to the download is http://www.webroot.com/co-tax

I had been using a few of the aforementioned programs, and I didn't like how the same threats would need to be removed every time I ran the program. I downloaded Microsoft Antispyware (free) and ran it. It found and removed all threats, since then I have not had to remove the same ones again. I figure noone knows how to protect Windows better than Microsoft.

Spybot and Ad Aware are plenty. Firewall yourself and you will find that spyware/adware has a big problem getting on your computer in the first place.
