Thieves hit 12 cars at complex

Stereos, and possibly other valuables, were taken from 12 cars at a Beech Street apartment complex early Wednesday morning, police Sgt. Larry Baker said Wednesday.

No suspects have been identified. The thieves used concrete pieces to smash the vehicle windows and gain access to cars in the parking lot at 227 N. Beech, Baker said. Stereos were discovered missing from several of the vehicles, but complete theft reports haven't been filed by all the victims.

The incident was reported at about 2 a.m. Wednesday morning, when a vehicle owner discovered the thefts. No one has reported hearing or seeing suspicious activity.

Pot found in home with child

A Casper man was arrested early Wednesday morning and charged with child endangerment and drug charges after police found methamphetamine and marijuana in an apartment he shared with a woman and her child.

Craig Rahman was charged with possession of methamphetamine in the presence of a child, as well as his fourth offense for both possession of meth and possession of marijuana.

According to the police report, officers contacted Rahman while investigating a report of a domestic dispute. He had been fighting with his female roommate about rented movies while the woman's 5-year-old slept in a nearby bedroom, according to a police report. Rahman reportedly granted officers permission to search the apartment, and they found a used syringe, a silver spoon with meth residue and a marijuana pipe.

The drug paraphernalia was confiscated as evidence, and Rahman, who told officers he was on probation, was taken to the Natrona County Detention Center.

Police nab La Costa in sting

Casper police conducted a sting operation Friday night to find bar and restaurant owners who would sell liquor to minors, Sgt. Larry Baker said Monday.

Of the 10 establishments, only La Costa Mexican Restaurant at 1600 E. Second St. sold an alcoholic beverage to a minor sent in by police, Baker said.

He was encouraged that the other nine carefully monitored the age of the minor, he said. "It means they're paying more attention," he said.

The other restaurants and bars that refused to serve the minor were Poor Boys Restaurant; the Fish Factory at the Parkway Plaza; Drake's Lounge at the Holiday Inn; The Lounge; Johnny O's; Fireside; T.J.'s; Paradise Valley Liquors; and Galloway's at the El Mark-O Lanes.

Cancer society holds Smokeout today

If you are considering quitting smoking, today would be an opportune day to do it -- the American Cancer Society is conducting the Great American Smokeout today.

The local chapter of the society will be distributing free smoking-cessation survival packs between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Community Cancer Resource Center located at 1443 E. Third Street, according to Katrina Feezer, the society's local quality-of-life relationship director.

The survival packs will include brochures on how best to quit smoking, plus hard candies and other useful items, Feezer said.

The cancer society will also have some survival packs for people looking to stop using smokeless tobacco, she said.

Man sought in girlfriend's beating

Police requested a warrant for the arrest of a 31-year-old man on charges of assaulting his girlfriend about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of South Grant Street, according to documents filed in Natrona County Circuit Court.

The victim claimed the man threw her car keys on the roof of their home and beat her in the street before leaving on foot before police arrived, the documents state.

The case falls under the Domestic Violence Protection Act, which allows police to make arrests even when victims are unwilling to press charges.

Three teenage boys were picked up Friday night on suspession of cow tipping on the Franky ranch.

The local police department raided a home at 100 NE Main on a tip that the owners were producing french frys which has been outlawed by the county commissioners since the French did not back up our war in Iraq
