Default Huge Change of Trajectory for Iraq and Kurds

n a statement that could have a dramatic impact on regional politics in the Middle East, a spokesman for Turkey's ruling party recently told a Kurdish media outlet that the Kurds in Iraq have the right to self-determination. The statement has been relatively overlooked so far, but could signal a shift in policy as Turkey has long been a principal opponent of Kurdish independence, which would mean a partitioning of Iraq.

"The Kurds of Iraq can decide for themselves the name and type of the entity they are living in," Huseyin Celik, a spokesman for the Justice and Development Party, told the Kurdish online news outlet Rudaw last week.

Obama should jump on this with both feet. Make it so.

"Balkanization " will make it's way to 'Murica in ~30-40 years as well..........the melting pot has turned into a rotten stew since Kennedy and his immigration reforms of the 1960's....

You are correct the Christian Right and Southern Conservatives are well on their way to making this happen. That is what you meant right?

The principal objective is making sure Al Qaeda and/or other spin offs (ISIS?) not get a foothold on that country's govt or oil resources. That would be a disaster of biblical proportions (and yes, while Obama hasn't been particularly impressive in the Middle East, none of this would have happened if Bush was something other than a moron with his invasion) and that must be stopped.

Partitioning doesn't solve the problem unless you can make sure a militant Islamic faction doesn't control even one of the territories or resources. Kurds is kinda a seperate deal, but I don't particularly care about self determination if it's contrary to US interests. That is the alpha and the omega of the whole analysis. This isn't a comic book, I don't care about being a good guy or bad guy, I just care about interests and resources.

You're funny. Without the "Christian right" and the "southern conservatives" (and northern ones as well) this country would resemble what we are well on our way to becoming.....a third world pasture of crime for the majority and gated communities with armed guards for the few (ala South Africa and Brasil.)

Culture matters, immigration patterns matter and ILLEGAL immigration matters even more. What once made this country GREAT has become marginalized and you don't have to take my word for it; look at our rankings world wide when it comes to health care, education and average wealth. All are falling dear friend and it's no coincidence that it's been falling appreciably since ~ 1990 while we are inundated with third world people from foreign cultures. The tipping point has already been reached; travel to a border town in Western Texas or the Barrios of Cali-For-ni-a.

http://cis.org/kammer/jorge-ramos-fo...central-americ

"After listening to a Cuellar description of the situation at the border, Ramos offered this incredulous summary of both the administration's policy and its inevitable effects on illegal immigration:

So, the official policy of the United States, as you have seen it in the state of Texas, is that whatever Central American child who comes to the United States is not going to be deported? Aren't we sending an extremely powerful message to Central America that will mean that many more children will continue to come?

Later he added that if word of U.S. policy spreads, "There is going to be an explosion of migrants"

The immigration issue is difficult. Yes, the administration is flagrantly ignoring immigration laws but the purpose is to ensure our demographics in the future can sustain economic growth. Hispanics appear to be the only major group with birth rates which exceed that which is necessary to sustain current population levels (I think 2.1 births per woman is the minimum needed to sustain current population levels). Whites appear to be dying off at an accelerated rate (aging boomers will accelerate this in awhile) and their current child birth stats are abysmal, so outside of Hispanic immigration (and childbearing) it will be tough to avoid problems in the future.

Basically, the goal here is to avoid the demographic catastrophe that will engulf Russia and also Japan. Russia's births per woman post USSR are god awful and even though they have recovered a bit recently, their population and thus GDP will begin to really shrink too. Japan's issue is a very gray population which will soon put tremendous strain on their resources. The US faces a similar issue albeit not for another decade or so, so more young workers are needed.

It is unfortunate that the administration is disregarding the law but I'm willing to cut them a break on it because what they are trying to achieve here is much more important than mere statutes.

Abortion has killed 57 million people over the last 40 years. Don't forget that little tidbit of information.

Obama is a joke and the immigration policy (or lack of policy) is another punch line.
