That's like when Ian Gold retired. "No takers....? No.....? Anyone....? I have decided to retire. I could keep playing if I WANTED to, but I don't. It was a tough decision to make."

Like so many of Mike's players, once he was fired half of his guys could not find a job on any other team and retired.

For his acumen as a coach, it is a tribute. As a GM, it is an indictment.

Yep. That has been my take all along. I think his best fit was OC. He made some horrid coaching hires as a HC.

If he would simply stick to coaching and stop trying to make Slowik into something then he would be fine.

Unless Shanny has an ego adjustment he is done in the NFL and if he is done I do not think he will make the HOF.

Shanahan is almost a certainty for the HOF. He has been to the Super Bowl as a HC or an OC 5 times and won 3 of them.

You could be right but he had a HOF HC in SF and a HOF QB on both teams that he inherited . If he gets in I think it might take a while. His coaching record has been abysmal post 98 and he failed pretty badly with the Raiders and the Skins.

I've heard two arguments based around other coaches that say Shanahan goes in and say he does not. One was John Madden going in meant Shanahan should. The other was Holmgren, saying if Holmgren doesn't, Shanahan won't.

There has to be concern that his poor ending in Washington could keep him out the way Seifert floundering in Carolina killed his chances. Interestingly Seifert and Shanahan both were replaced by Fox who took both teams to Super Bowls.

It was more comprehensive than you think. I met former linebacker coach Kirk Doll's (admittedly hot) daughter at camp one year. She was like the assistant of Public Relations or something and she hadn't even graduated school yet. He was giving jobs to family and personal friends regardless of their qualifications.

I think Madden going in had a lot to do with his broadcasting presence and even the Video game....his post coaching career made him probably the most well known name in professional football.
