So if the free agents we signed tear it up that will weaken our compensation for those we lost if they have only a so so year?

That sounds like a penalty for good coaching / scheme.

All negations are strictly one-to-one. Thus, even though Talib signed for a bigger deal than any of the players the Broncos lost, he can only negate the one player that signed the biggest contract (in this case, Decker). Same with Ward, who will negate either Beadles or Woodyard depending on what round Beadles is classified as.

I did not know this. Interesting. I do agree with Le-Lo, though. People wringing their hands about comped picks need to let it go.

Underwhelming for a 1st Round pick, but did you know that Ayers is tied with Neil Smith for the franchise most post-season sacks.

That is true only of the higher round picks. In the 7th round teams often get picks based on total exchange, so losing 7 and only gaining 2 can easily net a 7th round pick or two even if none of the individual contracts are quite high enough to warrant a pick.

A proven NFL player when we're trying to win a super bowl or a guy who probably never sees the light of day two years from now?

Mayock is a natural contrarian. He's wrong a lot, not that this is an exact science.

Good luck to Ayers. He didn't live up to the pre-draft hype but he was good for us the past 2 seasons.

A 6th round pick or what Ayers brings to the team right now?

Yeah, I'd go Ayers all day long.

I mean it will obviously depend on the contract, but this was a guy I would have liked to see them keep.

Well, if they have hopes for Q Smith, then there's little/no room for Ayers. I dont care about seeing him go, but I'm sure there's other FAs out there that can still help. Such as ... a warm body that knows how to play mike.

This is correct--I didn't mention it because it only applies to a subset of 7th round picks, and I wanted to keep things simple. I don't recall a team getting two 7ths for net value but I don't know for sure off the bat if that's happened before.

I'm talking about players left on the market that were non-Broncos. Elway is the one who made the decision not to bring these players back.

I'd be shocked if big bob did anything in NY. 12 sacks in 5 seasons is worse than John Engelberger. He is the definition of nice player/mediocre player/pedestrian player.

Not sure where you get that.

I would have it as Talib=Decker, Sanders=Woodyard, Ward=Beadles.

While getting picks for DRC, Phillips, Moreno, Ayers.

Still a good haul altogether.
