The idea that one would let a borderline elite RT walk in favor of the most average of average safeties is the height of lunacy.

I have to chuckle every time somebody claims how great they think Franklin is at RT, especially considering cap ramifications that he will have going forward.

He's not going to be cheap, and no he's nowhere close to elite. Manning makes average OL look good. Franklin is nothing more than average at RT.

I thought it was a comment on Deshaun Jackson's situation? That is how ESPN NFL Insiders framed it.

There really aren't that many RTs that I would take over Franklin, maybe some guys can develop to be much better than him like Lane Johnson or the bust the queefs drafted last year but as of right now without looking any stats up the only guys I think that do a better job at pass protection and opening up holes are Volmer from NE and Loadholdt from the vikings.. He may not be elite but I wouldn't label any RT as elite in the nfl right now, but he is certainly in the upper echelon of his position, even with Tebow playing qb, franklin was the horse that mcgahee ran behind on most plays.

I could care less if he was a part of the future and doesn't get an extension since I think he will get a huge payday in free agency.

I'll take Franklin as a run-blocker any day of the week, but I don't like him on a big contract at RT. At OG, I think Franklin would command $6M per year like Vasquez. Wouldn't want to pay him that at RT, especially when a guy like Vollmer only makes ~$4M per year.

I think you can usually draft an RT just as good as Franklin at the end of the 1st round nearly every year. I'd rather pay DT and Julius Thomas, spend the rest on Defense, and fill the remaining holes in the next 2 drafts.

Ken Lanier was Denver's starting right tackle for 11 or 12 years.

One of the best things (in my opinion) that you can have on a football team is some continuity on the offensive line.

The offensive line is the most necessarily cohesive unit in the game....at least that's my opinion.

I sincerely doubt we let Franklin go. He is one of the best RT's in football. He will get his money.

"Elite" and "one of the best" RTs would kick over to LT when Clady went down last year as opposed to starting someone with little to no experience and an UDFA pedigree.

In fact, I think it's pretty evident he isn't even in the top 2 of our own tackles...

I'm all for retaining Franklin, and I like what he adds quite a bit, but at the moment, we don't even KNOW he'll be a starter in September.

Does he stay at RT?

If so, does he compete with Clark?

If so, can he even win the job?

Does he kick inside to LG?

If so, can he handle it?

Do we draft a superior player?

A lot of questions that aren't conducive to handing him an extension right now. I'm quite firmly in Elway's camp on this one.

The crazy part is, no matter what scenario he's complaining about, he's dead wrong to air it publicly.

1. The Broncos refuse to sign him long term this offseason - Yeah no joke dude, even a blind monkey would know the Broncos have much higher priorities than signing a slow-footed RT to a huge contract.

2. He's being moved to Guard - Every analyst worth his salt has projected Franklin at Guard since college. Yeah, let's cry about it on twitter.

When a guy get's this desperate, he's obviously trying to garner attention from other teams going into a contract year.

People are basing way too much of their opinion on the SB.
He has been top notch since last year. He grades out well and it is not just Manning getting the ball out quickly.

I will never for the life of me understand why so many fans are so eager to downplay our guys ability.

The weaker links in the OL were Beadles and Man Ram last season.
We haven't had to worry about OT in years. Outside of the Clady contract situation.

Either Franklin or Clark is playing LG next season, with Painter possibly ready to take over at RT in 2015. The Broncos let Beadles walk without much effort in keeping him and the same may happen with Franklin. I could see a couple interior guys drafted in this coming draft.

Let's not forget that a.)Franklin has experience at guard from college b.) I'd rather pay him guard money than tackle money and c.) Clark is better at pass pro than franklin.

Exactly! I think a lot of people are over valuing Franklin who is only a RT. During the draft he was rated as a RT only skill set. If Clark is at RT Broncos would have a guy that can swing between RT and LT.
