You do realize that you are coming a cross as a bitter rival fan right? Even if the cap doesn't go all the way up to 160, it will go up significantly by 2016, and Manning's contract will be off the books by then. There just isn't any evidence the Broncos will end up in cap hell with these signings, no matter how much you hope they do.

Pretty steep price though if you ask me.

RT @Jeff_Legwold: After Talib, Ware, Ward and Caldwell deals, minus draft class space, #Broncos have a little less than $10M in cap space remaining w top 51.

Enough to get a decent Mike and some depth players.

Resign Knowshon at a cheap rate and a decent MLB.

For those interested, here is TJ Ward's contract breakdown:

http://overthecap.com/cap.php?Name=T...S&Team=Broncos

The guaranteed money was originally reported at $13.5M, but in truth it's really $7M no matter what--a $5 million signing bonus and his guaranteed $2M base this year. Thus, if something were to go wrong with him this year, he could be cut loose with minimal cap consequences. The same is true in 2016 and 2017 when all the guarantees are done with.

In sum, another very good contract done by Elway.

EDIT: Also note that most of the cap hit takes place in 2015, when the Broncos have much more cap space. $3.25M in cap this year is a very good number in the end. I'll be eager to see what the sum of that and the 2014 numbers for Talib and Ware will be.

Eh. I think the Broncos are managing the cap well.

AJ Smith is the one that screwed up the cap for the Chargers before he left. $10+ million in dead money this year and $7-8 million last year. Telesco is the one who has to clean it up.

I think some people seem to forget that Denver cut Champ Bailey and Elvis Dumervil. If they kept Dumervil and Champ, would they really be in worse shape then what they are now with these signings? Doesn't seem so.

Ware's true guarantees (at $16.5M), on the other hand, are a lot closer to to the reported $20M that first came out. The reports of $13M guaranteed in 2014 are also accurate. This is a good deal for Ware, and it also proves the reports that the Broncos were not going to let him leave Denver without a contract.

Still, the $9.6M cap number in 2014 is reasonable, and combined with Ward it's about $12.9M in cap space total--just a little less than half of the room they had available. Now we wait on Talib....

Someone probably posted this already but IAOFM did a good piece on this already.

We're fine, cap-wise.

Elway directly addressed this in his press conferences and noted that this isn't WIN NOW mode...it WIN NOW ON mode. Nothing is hurting us long-term about any or all of these contracts collectively. It seems like madness but it's not. Elway and his front office rule. That is all.

Well, given how much we shelled out, we clearly going for it for 2014-15 - and regarding cap hell in 2016+ (somewhat better by fact that by then, Manning's 22M+ comes off books).

I would be surprised if we have any more bullets left to fire, outside of bargain basement hunting. We still have enough to extend 3 young keys (D-Train, Miller & Knighton) for 2015, with only 85M committed for 2015, but you can see the cap hit coming in 2016.

Still, this was OUR need area (CB/2nd DE/Safety), and we did the job. Remember that Clady is back for 2014, and a top 5 LT when healthy, so that allows Clark to move to RT, and Franklin moves inside. Losing Decker and Moreno were at depth positions.

I'm guessing we see BPA for CB/LB at #31 in Round 1, and then getting BPA at WR in either Rounds 2-3, with O-line depth and whatever they missed in Round 1 between CB/LB as the other Round 2/3 pick.

It only screws your cap if the big name guys you sign don't perform. If Ware gets injured, Talib gets in trouble etc etc. If the players play well it's always worth it to the team.

What don't people understand about the fact the cap will be over 150 million by then. Broncos have no trouble in 2014, 2015, 2016, unless the players the sign don't perform. Then you are ****ed.

Fans around here don't understand if you manage your cap you can actually sign and retain good players

They see their FO give $10 mil/year contracts to guys like Brandon Flowers and just think it is cheating when we make smart decisions
Also, this is what happens when your owner wants to win a Superbowl before he departs the ether. None of this is happening without Bowlen's money. I will never like the way the Shanahan departure was handled, but that aside, there's no denying that Pat is committed to winning right now.

And here we go:

http://overthecap.com/cap.php?Name=A...B&Team=Broncos

I won't elaborate on the details as much since it looks like they got posted well in the Talib thread. The bottom line is a $7.9 million cap number in 2014 and that he can be cut loose after this year with minimum consequences if it doesn't work out.

What's good is that the Broncos only spent about $20.75 million in 2010 cap space--plenty of room left (about $8M) not only for rookies but also some mid-tier FA signings. The even better news is that they should have upwards of $40 million in 2015 caps, in spite of these three big deals. Plenty of room to extend the Thomases. Now that Decker and Tate have signed to give some idea of the market, hopefully that could put a Demaryius extension on a faster track. They could even save some 2014 cap space if they extended him this year.
